Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has declared that Gulf powers will no longer serve as a “shield” for American military bases and the United States will no longer have a “safe haven” in the Middle East region.
Speaking on his Telegram channel on Tuesday, Khamenei stated that regional countries must close US military bases as soon as possible, warning that they will be forced to attack them again if they don’t. He emphasized that the claim of establishing security and peace by America was “nothing more than a lie.”
The Supreme Leader called US military bases a “paper tiger,” questioning their ability to provide security in the region. He urged Iran’s Gulf neighbours to distance themselves from US military presence, which Iran argues creates “vulnerability and fragility” in these countries.
Khamenei declared that the future of the region will be “without America” and that the United States has no place in the Persian Gulf except “at the bottom of its waters.” He said a “new chapter” is taking shape for the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran controlling its management.
The statement comes as Tehran and Washington discuss a framework to end their three-month-old war. Khamenei stressed that whenever Iran sees a threat, it will retaliate and attack, meaning the United States is no longer safe in the region.
Iran’s new supreme leader vowed that Iran will continue to target US bases while maintaining friendship with neighbouring countries. He underscored that the lever of blocking the Strait of Hormuz must definitely be used, as the strategic waterway carries about a fifth of global oil shipments.
