An Indian farmer has installed a spiral staircase around a tall palm tree to make harvesting sap safer and easier.thefederal+1

The farmer, identified as Dinakar from Salaiputhur village in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, comes from a family that has worked with palmyra trees for generations. To reduce the risks of climbing and deal with a shortage of skilled palm climbers, he decided to build a staircase that wraps around a 55 foot tree near his home.

He invested about ₹60,000 to construct the spiral structure using iron rods. The staircase allows people to walk up the tree instead of using traditional climbing techniques that require strength, balance and years of practice.

According to Dinakar, the design makes the tree accessible not only to experienced climbers but also to elderly people, women and older children who help with the family business. He believes it will last for many years and improve productivity by allowing more frequent and safer trips up and down the tree.thefederal

Harvesting palm nectar, locally known as pathaneer, has always carried a risk of falls and injuries because of the height and smooth trunks of palmyra palms. By replacing rope and belt climbing with a solid staircase, the chances of accidents are greatly reduced while the work becomes less tiring.

Dinakar hopes his idea will help keep the traditional occupation alive at a time when younger people are moving away from palm work. He also believes similar staircases could be added to more trees in the area, making the job safer and more attractive for the next generation

A UK-based Nigerian lawyer has begun the process of renouncing his Nigerian citizenship, saying he has already submitted the required application and is now waiting for approval. The development has drawn attention online because it reflects the growing number of Nigerians abroad who are rethinking their legal ties to the country. The lawyer said his decision was deliberate and that he had chosen to move forward with the formal process. Graham Platner Suspends Maine Senate Campaign

Democratic US Senate candidate Graham Platner has suspended his campaign in Maine following a series of controversies, including a recent allegation of sexual assault that prompted senior party leaders to withdraw their support. In a video posted on social media, Platner denied the allegation, describing it as false. Ebola Misinformation Fuels Violence in DR Congo

Misinformation surrounding the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is fueling violence against health workers and disrupting efforts to contain the disease, according to humanitarian organizations and medical officials. One of the latest incidents occurred in Bunia, where Red Cross volunteer Daniel Uyirwoth Welo and three colleagues were attacked while transporting the body of an Ebola victim for a safe burial. Welo said they were assaulted by a crowd armed with tools, including spades and machetes, after false rumours spread that the coffin was empty and that Ebola was not real. The attack reflects growing resistance to public health measures during the outbreak, which has infected more than 1,750 people and claimed around 600 lives since mid-May, according to official figures. Aid agencies say misinformation has led some communities to reject medical advice, interfere with burials and […]

Speaking after the NATO summit, Trump strongly condemned Iran's leadership, accusing it of being dangerous and insisting that the country should never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon. He also issued fresh military threats, warning that the United States could launch more powerful strikes if necessary. While reaffirming Washington's military capabilities, Trump suggested that talks led by his negotiating team could proceed, although he questioned whether they would produce meaningful results. His comments reflected a combination of pressure and diplomacy rather than a complete abandonment of negotiations. Recent exchanges of military strikes between the United States and Iran have further complicated the diplomatic process. Negotiations were temporarily paused […]
