Nigerian Afropop star Ayra Starr has revealed that she wrote her hit song “Beggie Beggie” on a bus after witnessing someone begging outside.
Speaking in an Instagram reel, Starr shared the unexpected story behind the fan-favourite track from her debut album “19 & Dangerous.” She said: “I literally wrote it in the bus. Somebody was begging outside the bus now… This song, Beggie Beggie, in my first album, that I literally wrote in the bus.”
Ayra Starr also revealed: “You guys don’t even want to know what even inspired that” when she was asked about the song’s creative process, indicating the experience was more memorable than people might expect.
The track “Beggie Beggie” depicts a woman pleading for a lover’s attention while asserting her self-worth, told from both a female and male perspective. It was released on August 6, 2021, and features CKay, appearing as the seventh track on the standard edition of “19 & Dangerous.”
Produced by Louddaaa and co-written by Starr, her brother Oluwadamilare Aderibigbe, and CKay, the Afropop and R&B ballad was recorded at Mavin Studios in Lagos and mixed and mastered by Johnny Drille. The song showcases Starr’s songwriting ability and has become one of her most popular tracks.

Veteran Nigerian television host Frank Edoho has denied serious allegations made by his estranged wife Sandra Onyenucheya and threatened to take legal action against her. The controversy erupted after a leaked audio recording surfaced on social media alleging an extramarital relationship between Onyenucheya and popular singer Chike.
