Fubara Speaks Out: “No King Lives Forever”
Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has broken his silence, delivering a defiant message amid the ongoing political turmoil in the state.
Speaking at a public event in Bonny , Fubara declared:
“No king lives forever.”
His remarks were widely interpreted as a direct commentary on the political struggle that led to his removal from office and the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu in March.
The emergency followed a bitter feud between Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) , Nyesom Wike .
As a result, the federal government appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator to manage state affairs for six months.
Fubara Stands By His Actions
In his address, Fubara said he remains confident that time will vindicate him and restore his political standing.
“Everybody won’t appreciate your style,” he said.
“But when you know what you’re doing is right, you can defend it even 25 to 30 years from now—that’s what makes you a man.”
He added:
“No king lives forever. That’s the truth. No authority lasts forever. But what matters is that during your time in power, you do great things that will speak for themselves forever.”
Fubara also rejected pressure to change who he is, stating clearly:
“I can’t be what I’m not. Some people accuse me of many things, but I will never pretend to be someone I’m not.”
Message to Supporters: “You Need to Lose to Win”
Encouraging his supporters to remain strong, Fubara urged them to see beyond short-term setbacks.
“For our people, just be strong—sometimes, you need to lose to win,” he said.
“I’ve never considered myself as losing anything. It’s only when you attach life to things that they hurt.”
He concluded with optimism:
“I know that, in the end, our victory will come because we stand on solid ground.”
Meetings With Tinubu and Wike Continue
Since his suspension, Fubara has met twice with President Tinubu and Minister Wike in attempts to resolve the crisis and pave the way for reconciliation.
However, tensions remain high in the state, with many watching closely to see how the situation unfolds.
