Former Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim emerges as leading AC Milan candidate

Article arrow_drop_down

Former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly in contention for the managerial position at AC Milan after the dismissal of Max Allegri following a disappointing conclusion to their Serie A campaign.

Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United came to an end in January, marking a lackluster period at Old Trafford. Having been without a managerial role for the past six months, Amorim now has a chance to take the helm at one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.

AC Milan is actively seeking a new coach and is set to reach out to various candidates after parting ways with Allegri once the Serie A season concluded. In addition to Amorim, AC Milan’s management is also considering Oliver Glasner, another manager currently without a position, who has a provisional two-year contract offer on the table.

During his tenure at Sporting CP, Oliver Glasner achieved three trophies, establishing himself as the most successful manager in the club’s history, which has made him a sought-after candidate. Matthiass Jaissle, who is presently managing Al-Ahli, is another name linked with the Milan role and both possess a younger, more expansive tactical vision.

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is taking his time to finalise the club’s next managerial appointment despite holding a draft agreement with Oliver Glasner. The Rossoneri hierarchy are widening their search to consider alternative profiles, including former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and Alvaro Arbeloa, to find a specific technical vision aligned with his long-term footballing philosophy.

Arbeloa is available after parting ways with Real Madrid, and Cardinale has also sounded out the former Spanish defender as a potential candidate. The entire sporting project hinges on Ralf Rangnick, who stands as the sole candidate to become Milan’s new technical director.

Ruben Amorim was most recently manager of Premier League club Manchester United before his departure in January 2026. He is a Portuguese professional football manager born on January 27, 1985, and is currently 39 years old.
