The Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) has commended the Federal Government for implementing various youth training and empowerment programmes that have significantly reduced criminal activities across the Niger Delta region.
In a statement issued by its National President, Comrade Major Ekene, NDYM stated that the Federal Government’s youth-focused interventions under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have contributed to a sharp decline in militancy, youth restiveness, crude oil theft, and other forms of economic sabotage.
The group expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Regional Development, led by Engineer Abubakar Momoh, for effectively implementing the Tinubu administration’s initiatives aimed at transforming the lives of young people through practical and entrepreneurial training.
“The Niger Delta Youth Movement, the umbrella body of all youths in the region, deeply appreciates the Ministry of Regional Development for its pragmatic training programmes,” the statement read.
“We pledge our unalloyed solidarity to the continuity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its genuine development policies, projects, and programmes for the youths, women, and the elderly. The youths are passionate about the training, orientation, and empowerment programmes under the ministry’s supervision.”
The group further highlighted that many beneficiaries have already begun successful ventures in fish farming, palm oil and kernel production, piggery, and cooperative societies, noting that such initiatives are fostering self-reliance among the region’s youth.
According to NDYM, the combination of theoretical and practical entrepreneurship training, coupled with mentorship by experienced professionals, is helping young people develop sustainable livelihoods.
“As we look forward to the 2025 training and empowerment programmes, we urge the youths to embrace the spirit of entrepreneurship,” the statement added.
“Proper and methodical empowerment of the youth means a reduction in crime and criminality, including crude oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage.”
NDYM reaffirmed its commitment to working with the Federal Government to promote peace, stability, and development in the Niger Delta region.
