Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says satellite towns across the territory are now benefiting significantly from President Bola Tinubu’s administration through upgraded infrastructure and expanded social services.
Speaking on Wednesday after inspecting ongoing projects in Abuja, Wike said federal interventions now extend beyond major roads to education, water supply and healthcare facilities in previously neglected communities.
He noted that satellite towns had “never experienced such a level of attention” before now, pointing out that several schools in rural parts of the FCT have been renovated and furnished in the last three years.
Wike disclosed that a major satellite water project serving Bwari, Karu and Orozo will be inaugurated to mark President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office, improving access to potable water for thousands of residents.
According to him, government is also closing health infrastructure gaps through the rehabilitation of multiple facilities across the territory, ensuring that underserved areas benefit from quality basic services and not just road construction.
During the inspection, Wike expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on the road linking the Central Business District to Wuse along the Transit Way N2 Corridor. While he commended the quality of the work, he warned that he would not tolerate further delays and directed the Federal Capital Development Authority to ensure the contractor delivers the project by the second week of June.
At the N16 Interchange connecting Jahi and Gwarinpa districts, the minister praised the contractor for quality execution and expressed confidence that the project would be completed on schedule. He also lauded progress on the road linking the Body of Benchers, Nile University and Baze University, describing both the pace and quality of work as satisfactory.
In Tungan Madaki, Wike inspected the road linking Bill Clinton Drive to Zuba and said compensation issues for affected communities were being handled through the appropriate agencies. He maintained that the administration remains committed to balanced development that benefits both the city centre and satellite towns.

Multiple Nigerian states are rushing to deploy forest guards as insecurity deepens across the country, marking a significant expansion of the federal government's Presidential Forest Guards Initiative. The programme was launched by President Bola Tinubu in May 2025 as part of renewed efforts to tackle nationwide insecurity, and has already yielded fruits with over 7,000 newly recruited Nigerian Forest Guards graduating following successful completion of an intensive three-month training programme. Kwara State has deployed nearly 1,000 newly trained forest guards to its hinterlands, declaring war on terrorists and kidnappers exploiting the state's wooded terrain. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq delivered a blunt message to criminal elements at a passing-out parade in Ilorin: their days of using Kwara's forests as a sanctuary are over, with plans to station at least 200 guards in each of the state's 17 local government areas. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, over the suspension of a number of students following alleged unrest on campus. The student union has accused the university of resorting to harsh punitive measures instead of addressing the root causes of the crisis. NANS Southwest (Zone D) Coordinator Owolewa Taiwo, who spoke during a press briefing, said the union has exhausted the first two “C’s” of Aluta — consultation and confrontation — in its attempts to resolve the dispute with the university. He therefore announced that NANS is now moving to the final “C”: Confrontation, as it prepares to escalate the issue. The association has unveiled a plan to hold a protest on Monday, which will disrupt academic activities at LAUTECH until the suspensions are reviewed. The demonstration is […]
