Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, has called on investors to buy bitcoin during a visit to Hong Kong, as his family steps up efforts in the cryptocurrency sector.
Speaking at the Bitcoin Asia conference on Friday, the 41-year-old described bitcoin as the “greatest asset in the world” and predicted its price could eventually reach $1 million.
“The bitcoin community embraced my father unlike anything I had ever seen before, and I hope that’s paid off in spades, because we love this community, we believe in this community,” he told a packed hall of crypto enthusiasts.
Eric Trump’s appearance comes as his company, American Bitcoin—a mining firm backed by him and Donald Trump Jr.—seeks acquisitions in Asia. According to the Financial Times, the company is preparing to list on the NASDAQ in the near future.
His comments follow a surge in bitcoin’s value, which hit a record high of more than $124,500 in mid-August before pulling back slightly. The rally has been fuelled by recent U.S. regulatory changes under President Trump’s administration, including three major cryptocurrency bills passed by the House of Representatives last month.
Eric Trump is also expected to attend a shareholder meeting of Japanese bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet on September 1, according to Bloomberg.
When asked about competition between the U.S. and China in the digital asset space, he acknowledged China as “a hell of a power” in the sector.
The Trump family has become increasingly active in cryptocurrency ventures, with their involvement boosting both political and financial interests as Washington shifts toward a more supportive stance on digital assets.
