The Minority in Parliament is pressing the government for an explanation regarding the seizure of gold and cash by National Security in February. They are calling for clarity on the value of the assets, which they claim are worth billions of dollars.
At a recent press conference, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, revealed that the seizure occurred in southern Accra, where 12 containers filled with gold bars and an unspecified amount of US dollars and Ghanaian cedis were found. Despite the operation being widely reported, there have been no updates from National Security in nearly two months.
The Minority is demanding transparency from the government, questioning the total amount of the seized assets and what will happen to them. The government has not disclosed the ownership of the gold and cash or its plans for the items.
Rev. Fordjour stressed that the lack of transparency could erode public trust in the government and reiterated that the Minority would continue to push for accountability. They have given National Security a two-month deadline to provide a full report, and they will persist in seeking answers until the truth is revealed.
