Ghana Government Cancels Controversial Diplomatic Property Sales

The Ghanaian government has reversed a controversial decision made by the previous administration to sell diplomatic properties in Nigeria and Zambia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made this announcement in Parliament, confirming that the action had the full support of President John Dramani Mahama.

Ablakwa emphasized that the current administration is committed to protecting the nation’s diplomatic assets and made it clear that no Ghanaian property would be sold while they are in power. He further revealed that efforts are underway to recover an illegal partial payment made for one of the properties and assured that those involved in the transaction will be held accountable.

The Minister declared that all of Ghana’s 71 diplomatic properties, both in the country and abroad, would remain untouchable and not for sale, warning that they are “off-limits” under the present government. This decision aligns with the government’s policy of “Operation Recover All Loot” (ORAL), which aims to prevent state assets from being misused.

Concluding his statement with a patriotic message, Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s dedication to upholding national interest, stating, “For God and Country.”
