The Minority in Parliament has accused National Security operatives of engaging in unlawful activities, including theft, during a raid on the home of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison. At a press conference on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin condemned the alleged “Rambo-style” operation that occurred on Wednesday, March 19, at Dr. Addison’s residence in Roman Ridge, Accra.
Afenyo-Markin claimed that during the raid, the operatives stole GH₵10,000 that was left on the former governor’s bed. He also alleged that personal items, such as earrings and necklaces, belonging to Dr. Addison’s wife were taken.
The Minority leader further suggested that the security operatives involved in the raid may have been politically motivated, pointing to their potential lack of pay. He accused some of these operatives of using their positions to steal from political opponents, particularly former appointees of President Nana Akufo-Addo.
Afenyo-Markin expressed outrage over what he sees as an unprecedented abuse of power, arguing that this incident marks the first time in Ghana’s history that a former central bank governor has been treated in such a manner. The Minority also accused the government of using National Security operatives to intimidate political rivals.
The Minority leader called for the immediate cessation of such actions and urged the government to ensure that National Security personnel operate within the law rather than engaging in political persecution.
