Government Approves Construction of Second Gas Processing Plant to Boost Energy Security

The government of Ghana has received Cabinet approval for the construction of a second gas processing plant aimed at addressing the country’s ongoing energy supply challenges. This decision was revealed by Energy Minister John Jinapor on March 7, 2025, during a press briefing at the Jubilee House.

Jinapor highlighted that the move is a critical step toward ensuring energy security and enhancing the stability of the power supply in Ghana. With growing energy demands and limited gas processing capacity, this new facility will augment existing infrastructure and help meet the country’s energy needs, particularly for power generation.

The government, in collaboration with the Finance Ministry, will begin taking immediate actions to build the second plant. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to tackle energy challenges in the short, medium, and long term.
