D’Prince Decries Monetised Cyberbullying in Entertainment

Article arrow_drop_down

Nigerian singer and music executive D’Prince has raised concern over what he describes as the growing monetisation of cyberbullying in the entertainment industry.

He said some podcasts and online platforms are now built around paid narratives, controversy, and targeted attacks on public figures. According to him, the trend has turned online harassment into a business model.

D’Prince warned that the pressure on creatives is already high, and adding public abuse only makes the situation worse. He said no amount of online attention is worth the mental health, dignity, or emotional well-being of an artist.

The music executive also criticised coordinated attacks driven by propaganda, engagement chasing, and paid interests. He said the problem is not limited to entertainment, as it is also affecting wider online spaces.

He called for more professionalism, accountability, and ethical standards in journalism and digital media. He also urged social media users to understand the difference between harmless banter and cyberbullying.

D’Prince said freedom of expression should always go with responsibility, and people should choose empathy over cruelty.

African music entering a ‘correction phase’, not decline – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has said African music is not in decline but is instead entering a “correction” or “maturation” phase following several years of explosive global growth. Speaking as a keynote voice at a recent creative conference, she noted that after the initial Afrobeats boom, the industry is now naturally adjusting, filtering out hype and rewarding more structured, long‑term work. Savage explained that some people misread the current slowdown in viral hits or international chart dominance as a slump, when it is actually a normal cycle in which markets stabilise and audiences become more selective. In her view, this phase is healthy because it pushes African artists, labels and managers to focus on quality, professionalism and building sustainable brands rather than chasing quick trends. She pointed out that African music has already proven its global appeal, with Afrobeats and […]

I feared my career had stalled three years before AMVCA win – Actress Linda Ejiofor

Nollywood actress Linda Ejiofor has revealed that she once feared her acting career had stalled, three years before her historic double win at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). She said she went through a period of deep anxiety when quality roles seemed to dry up and she worried that the industry had moved on from her. According to Ejiofor, she took those concerns to God in prayer, asking specifically for a role that would challenge her and reignite her passion for acting. That prayer was eventually answered with two powerful projects – “The Serpent’s Gift” and “The Herd” – which would later change the trajectory of her career. At the 12th AMVCA, Linda made history as the first actress to win both Best Lead Actress and Best Supporting Actress on the same night. She clinched Best Lead […]

I was stereotyped in my early acting years – Actress Bolaji Ogunmola

Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has opened up about the challenges she faced in her early years in the movie industry, saying she was heavily stereotyped because of her looks. She revealed that producers and directors often judged her by her dark skin and curvy body, boxing her into a narrow range of roles. According to Ogunmola, many filmmakers preferred light‑skinned actresses for lead characters at the time, while she was frequently considered only for supporting or “side chick” roles. “It was almost like they wanted to put me in a box,” she recalled, noting that her body type was used as an excuse to limit the kind of characters she could play. The actress said these stereotypes made it difficult to show her full range as a performer and slowed her journey to more complex, leading roles. Over time, however, […]
