Dewsbury‑Hall joins Everton on five‑year deal for £25–£28m

Article arrow_drop_down

Everton have completed the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall from Chelsea on a five‑year contract, in a move officially confirmed on August 6, 2025. The 26‑year‑old midfielder joins as Everton’s fifth summer signing, following Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, and Adam Aznou.

The fee is reported at an initial £24–25 million, with performance‑based add‑ons that could bring the total to approximately £28–29 million. This sale roughly recoups Chelsea’s £30m outlay from 2024 when he was recruited from Leicester City under former manager Enzo Maresca.

Dewsbury‑Hall expressed enthusiasm about his move:

“It was an easy decision in the end to come here … Everton’s one of the biggest clubs in the country … it felt like the right fit … the new stadium … and everything”

Everton manager David Moyes stressed the player’s Premier League experience as crucial:

“Kiernan’s quality and experience … gives us the hope that he can adapt quickly”

Career Context & Role at Everton

Dewsbury‑Hall emerged from the Leicester City academy and played a key role in their promotion-winning 2023–24 season, scoring 12 goals and delivering 14 assists in 44 Championship matches, earning recognition as Leicester’s Player of the Season. He transferred to Chelsea in July 2024 but made just two Premier League starts in 13 appearances, though he was influential in their UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup wins, featuring in all 15 Conference League matches with four goals and three assists.

Now at Everton, Dewsbury‑Hall is expected to fill the creative midfield void left by Abdoulaye Doucouré, offering box-to-box energy and goal contributions.

Strategic Overview

  1. Smart financial model: Everton appears to have secured a balanced deal—paying an initial fee recouped by Chelsea but potentially increasing with performance add-ons. This aligns with financial prudence amid FFP concerns for both clubs.
  2. Immediate football utility: Moyes fast-tracks Dewsbury‑Hall into a role where his Premier League experience provides more immediate impact than squad-age signings or developmental prospects.
  3. Player enthusiasm & project alignment: Dewsbury‑Hall cited Everton’s new stadium project, passionate supporters, and Moyes’ personal interest as central to his decision—a fit indicative of alignment with club ambition.

Everton’s acquisition of Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall on a five-year deal represents a calculated infusion of Premier League experience, creativity, and value. For a reported £24–25m upfront (with add-ons taking it closer to £28m–£29m), the Toffees land a player capable of immediate impact—while Chelsea recoups much of their prior investment. The move also underscores Moyes’ strategy: targeting players who fit Everton’s evolving project on and off the pitch, as they move into their new stadium era.

Arsenal reach UCL final with unbeaten run

It may seem unusual to say a team heading to a Champions League final has gone somewhat under the radar, but that has largely been the case for Arsenal this season. Much of the focus has been on their push to end a 22-year wait for a Premier League title, overshadowing what has been an outstanding European campaign under Mikel Arteta. Arsenal secured their place in the final in Budapest after a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final. A first-half goal from Bukayo Saka sealed a 2-1 aggregate victory. While the performance at the Emirates Stadium was not their most dominant, Arsenal’s overall displays in Europe this season have been highly effective. They remain the only unbeaten side left in the competition, recording impressive wins against Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Sporting CP. Their […]

With a largely home based squad, the athletes rose to the occasion and ensured Nigeria will be represented in multiple relay events on the global stage. Nigeria’s biggest highlight came in the mixed 4x400m relay, where the quartet of Samson Nathaniel, Taiwo Kudoro, Chidi Okezie and Patience Okon George ran a season’s best of 3:12.88 to finish second in their heat. That result was enough to secure a ticket to the 2027 World Championships in Beijing and underlined the country’s growing strength in the one lap relay. The women’s 4x100m team also secured qualification after bouncing back from an earlier setback. Following a baton mishap that cost them in their first outing, the quartet of Rosemary […]

The Nigerian striker was once again the hero as his late strike sealed a 2 1 comeback win away to Hibernian at Easter Road. Celtic went ahead in the first half through Daizen Maeda, but Hibs captain Joe Newell levelled the game before the break despite the hosts being reduced to 10 men following Jamie McGrath’s red card. The visitors then piled on the pressure in the second period, creating chances but struggling to find a breakthrough until Iheanacho stepped up. Introduced as a second half substitute, Iheanacho made his impact in the 72nd minute when he calmly finished inside the box after Celtic forced another opening against the tiring […]
