9ice says prayers and religion have not improved Nigeria

Singer Alexander Adegbola Akande, known as 9ice, has said that Nigeria’s heavy focus on religion and prayers has not translated into real national progress. Speaking at a recent event, he compared Nigeria with countries like the United Kingdom, where people appear less devoted to organised religion yet enjoy higher levels of development. 9ice, who described himself as a traditionalist, said his views were shaped by personal experiences, including recovering from a spiritual attack after help from an Ifa priest. He noted that many Nigerians spend a lot of time on religious activities such as regular worship and pilgrimages. He urged citizens to concentrate more on productivity and practical steps that can move the country forward. According to him, some Nigerians pray over issues they should be working hard to fix themselves. He argued that constant prayers and religious observance alone […]

Atletico beat 10 man Barcelona in UCL quarter final first leg

Atletico Madrid took control of their UEFA Champions League quarter final tie with a 2 0 away win over 10 man Barcelona in the first leg at the Olympic Stadium. Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth scored the goals for Diego Simeone’s side, giving them a strong advantage to defend in next Tuesday’s return leg at the Metropolitano. The turning point came just before half time when Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi was sent off for a last man foul. From the resulting free kick, Alvarez bent a superb shot into the net to put Atletico ahead. Despite playing with a man down, Barcelona continued to see more of the ball after the break, but they struggled to create clear chances against Atletico’s organised defence. Sorloth then doubled the visitors’ lead, making Barcelona’s task even harder as they now need at least […]

Ajibade blasts NFF over poor Falcons WAFCON plans

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has criticised the Nigeria Football Federation over what she called poor preparation for upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In a series of posts on her Instagram story on Wednesday, she expressed frustration that the NFF had not officially communicated key details such as the opening date of the national team camp and confirmed friendly matches for the April international window. Ajibade shared a screenshot of a chat that appeared to show an NFF official informally telling her that camp would open on April 11. She condemned the lack of formal notice, saying players were still in the dark about camp logistics and preparatory games for the window running from April 7 to 18. Iran sets new ship routes in Strait of Hormuz

Iran has announced new shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, citing safety concerns over possible sea mines in the main channel used by vessels. The decision comes as Tehran agreed to temporarily reopen the strategic waterway under a two week truce deal, after weeks of tension that threatened global oil supplies. About one fifth of the world’s oil passes through the strait. In a statement reported by local media, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps advised all ships to follow designated alternative paths to reduce the risk of hitting sea mines and to improve maritime safety. The guidance includes revised entry and exit routes for vessels using the corridor. The move follows a ceasefire agreement reached between Iran and the United States, which took effect overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday. The truce was reportedly secured less than an hour before […]

Marwa said criminals are becoming more sophisticated, using technology, government systems and cross border networks, and insisted that security can no longer be seen as only a military or police issue. Iran insists on right to enrich uranium in talks

Iran’s nuclear chief has insisted that Tehran will keep its right to enrich uranium in any future peace talks with the United States. Mohammed Eslami, head of Iran’s nuclear programme, spoke on Thursday on the sidelines of a memorial service for late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He rejected US demands that Iran should end uranium enrichment, according to Iran’s ISNA news agency. “Those are their wishes, and those wishes will be buried,” he said, referring to US calls for Tehran to halt enrichment. Even before the ongoing war, officials from Washington and Tehran had been holding indirect talks over Iran’s nuclear activities. US President Donald Trump has said his goal is to prevent Iran from building a nuclear bomb. Tehran has repeatedly denied it is seeking nuclear weapons, saying its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes even as it […]
