JUST IN: Supreme Court to hear appeals on PDP leadership dispute on April 22

The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of two appeals filed by the Kabiru Turaki‑led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging recent judgments on the party’s national leadership dispute. A five‑member panel of the apex court headed by Justice Mohammed Garba set the date on Tuesday while ruling on applications seeking accelerated hearing. The court granted the requests, allowing a departure from its usual rules and abridging the time within which the respondents must file their briefs. Under the timetable, the respondents have five days to file their briefs of argument, while the appellants are to file any reply briefs within two days. The court then adjourned until April 22 for substantive hearing of the two appeals. The Turaki group is appealing two March 9, 2026 Court of Appeal judgments which affirmed earlier decisions of […]

Scarlet Gomez: My husband not threatened by on-screen kissing

Actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed that her husband is not bothered by her on-screen kissing scenes, saying his confidence and trust in their marriage make it a non-issue. Speaking on the show “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” Gomez said her husband fully understands her job as an actress and does not feel insecure or threatened by the intimate roles she plays on set. She made the remark after media personality Isbaeu jokingly criticised how people often downplay on-screen intimacy by insisting they only kissed a character, not the actual actor. He quipped that someone who kisses veteran actor Yomi Fash-Lanso cannot later claim, “It is Joshua I kissed.” Responding, Gomez said: “I’m married to a man, not a boy. He doesn’t have a small ego, and he trusts his wife. Moving on.” She emphasised that her husband’s maturity and trust allow […]

Why artists need discipline in music industry, by Lojay

Afrobeats singer Lojay has highlighted the importance of discipline for artists who want a long and successful career in the music industry. Speaking on the “I Said What I Said” podcast, he said his early idea of fame was about “frolicking with a lot of ladies” but that his outlook changed as he understood the realities and pressures of the industry. Lojay stressed that there is a lot of temptation in music and that artists will “see a lot of things” they are not meant to touch, especially when sudden attention comes from many admirers. He noted that when an artist has “about 100 girls talking to you,” that is exactly when discipline is most needed. He explained that artists must watch both their actions and their words if they want to protect their reputation and build a sustainable brand, contrary to […]

Great song, great rhythm!” Onanuga wrote in his post. Released in 2020, “Essence” marked a major breakthrough for Afrobeats and Nigerian music on the global stage. Man City will have ‘psychological edge’ over Arsenal in title showdown – Rooney

Wayne Rooney says Manchester City will hold a psychological advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race because of their experience and composure in decisive moments. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster clash at the Etihad Stadium, the former Manchester United striker noted that City’s familiarity with winning titles under Pep Guardiola gives them a mental edge. He argued that Guardiola and his players are better equipped to stay calm under pressure than Arsenal’s relatively younger squad. “I think City will have the edge on that, just purely the manager and players they’ve got. They will be able to stay a little calmer than the Arsenal players,” Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show. He added that teams on a poor run of results often slip into a negative mindset that can damage performance. “When you go on a run […]

Yamal tells Barcelona: sign ‘red‑hot’ Osimhen

Barcelona teenage star Lamine Yamal has reportedly urged the club’s hierarchy to sign Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the 18‑year‑old winger believes Osimhen would transform Barcelona’s attack next season and has personally backed the Nigerian’s arrival. Yamal is said to have told club chiefs that Osimhen’s movement, pace and physicality would stretch opposition defences and ease the pressure on him in the final third. He reportedly argued that the striker’s constant runs in behind would create more space and chances for Barcelona’s creative players. Barcelona are planning for life after veteran forward Robert Lewandowski, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season. With Ferran Torres also linked with a possible exit, the Catalan giants are actively assessing options to lead their frontline. Osimhen, 27, has been […]

Iran resumes rail services on routes damaged by war

Iran has resumed rail services on several key routes after repairing sections of track damaged during the recent war with Israel and the United States, according to state media reports on Monday. Authorities have begun reconstruction work on bridges, railway lines and other infrastructure that were hit during nearly 40 days of fighting. A fragile ceasefire has been in place since Wednesday, creating space for emergency repairs and limited restoration of transport links. In Iran’s northwestern Azerbaijan region, the director general of the railways said trains have started running again from the city of Tabriz to the capital Tehran and to Mashhad in the northeast. “These trains have resumed service after an interruption of four to five days,” Alireza Soleimani told the official IRNA news agency. He added that the Tehran–Tabriz–Van service also left Tehran for Van in Turkey on […]

Turkey accuses Israel of portraying it as ‘new enemy’

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has accused Israel of trying to portray Turkey as its “new enemy” amid rising tensions over the Gaza war and the broader regional conflict involving Iran. Speaking in a televised interview with state‑run Anadolu news agency, Fidan said Israel “cannot live without an enemy” and is now attempting to cast Turkey in that role following years of confrontation with Iran and its allies. Relations between Ankara and Tel Aviv have steadily worsened since the Gaza war erupted after Hamas’s October 7, 2023 cross‑border attack on Israel. Fidan’s remarks came after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned United States President Donald Trump of possible “provocations and sabotage” that could undermine an initial ceasefire understanding in the US‑Israeli war on Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed that Israel will continue to confront Tehran and its regional […]
