Hamas Rejects Trump’s Proposal for US Control of Gaza

Hamas has strongly rejected a reported plan by US President Donald Trump for the United States to assume control of Gaza and relocate its population. The Washington Post revealed on Sunday that the White House was reviewing a 38-page proposal that would place Gaza under US trusteeship for at least 10 years. The plan envisions transforming the war-torn territory into a tourism hub and technology center, with new “AI-powered smart cities” built in place of destroyed neighborhoods. Trump previously suggested in February that Gaza could be turned into “the Riviera of the Middle East” once its Palestinian residents were moved out. The idea sparked swift outrage across the Arab world. Palestinians compared it to the Nakba of 1948, when hundreds of thousands were displaced during the creation of Israel. A Hamas official, speaking anonymously, told AFP the group “rejects all […]

Finnish Court Jails Simon Ekpa Six Years for Terrorism

A Finnish court has sentenced Nigerian-born Finnish politician, Simon Ekpa, to six years in prison for terrorism-related crimes and other offences. The Päijät-Häme District Court in Lahti delivered the judgment on Monday, convicting the 40-year-old of multiple charges including participation in a terrorist organisation, incitement to commit crimes for terrorist purposes, aggravated tax fraud, and violations of the Lawyers Act. The court also ordered that he remain in custody. According to court records, between August 2021 and November 2024, Ekpa used social media to promote the independence of the so-called Biafra region in southeastern Nigeria through illegal means. Judges said he exploited divisions within a separatist movement to assume an influential role, helping to structure it into a more organised group. The court found that under Ekpa’s influence, armed groups classified as terrorist organisations were formed. He was accused of […]

A plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen experienced GPS signal jamming while preparing to land in Bulgaria, with authorities suspecting Russian involvement, the European Commission confirmed on Monday. Commission spokesperson Arianna Podesta told reporters: “We can indeed confirm that there was GPS jamming.” She added that Bulgarian authorities believe Moscow was behind the interference, although it is not yet clear whether von der Leyen’s plane was specifically targeted. Liverpool vs Arsenal: Gunners Aim to End 12-Year Anfield Drought in Title Chase

Arsenal travel to Anfield on Sunday seeking their first Premier League win at Liverpool since 2012—a result that could inject momentum into their title ambitions. The Gunners arrive unbeaten after two league matches, boasting the division’s best defensive record, while champions Liverpool have shown early defensive frailties, conceding goals despite their attacking strength. History, though, is against Mikel Arteta’s men. Liverpool remain unbeaten at home in August since 2015 and have scored in 36 consecutive league games, closing in on a club milestone. Arsenal are winless in their last 12 league trips to Anfield, their last victory coming 12 years ago. Arsenal’s preparations are clouded by injuries, with Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Martin Ødegaard, and Gabriel Jesus either out or doubtful. But new £68 million signing Eberechi Eze could make his debut. Arteta praised the midfielder’s “special aura” in training […]
