US slams visa ban on Nigerians linked to anti-Christian attacks

The United States has announced new visa bans targeting Nigerians accused of involvement in anti-Christian violence and other serious violations of religious freedom. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the restrictions would apply to individuals who knowingly direct, authorise, fund, support or carry out attacks and abuses against Christians and other religious minorities, as well as to their immediate family members. He explained that the decision was a response to mass killings and violence linked to radical Islamist groups, Fulani militias and other armed actors in Nigeria, and warned that the same policy could be used against abusers in other countries. The visa measures are being implemented under Section 212(a)(3)(C) of the US Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows Washington to deny entry to foreign nationals whose presence is considered against US foreign policy or security interests. Although the […]

Defence Minister General Christopher Musa has declared that there should be no more negotiations or ransom payments to terrorists in Nigeria, insisting that such actions only strengthen criminal groups. Speaking during his ministerial screening and in comments highlighted by the Ministry of Defence, Musa warned that paying ransom gives terrorists money and time to regroup, re-arm and plan fresh attacks, noting that some communities that negotiated were later attacked again. He urged all levels of government to adopt a united position against negotiating with terrorists or bandits, stressing that ransom payments must stop if Nigeria is serious about ending kidnappings and insurgency. Musa also pointed out that Nigeria’s banking and digital payment systems can be used more effectively to trace ransom money and disrupt terrorist financing networks when supported by a unified national database and stronger security coordination. The minister […]
