Gaza universities reopen after two years of war, reviving hope for students

After two years of war that devastated the Gaza Strip, universities are slowly reopening and offering students a fragile but vital path back to education. Before the conflict began in October 2023, Gaza had 17 higher education institutions, but most of their hundreds of buildings now lie in ruins, with more than 100 university structures destroyed and about 200 staff members killed, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education. At Al Azhar University in Gaza, administrators and students say they are determined not to let the war erase an entire generation’s future. Teaching has resumed on a temporary campus, where damaged classrooms and improvised facilities reflect both the scale of destruction and the determination of students returning to continue their studies. Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Shubeir said the university kept teaching online during the war, even as staff worked from […]

India deports 32 Nigerians over alleged drug network links

Indian authorities have deported 32 Nigerians after a nationwide crackdown on an alleged transnational drug network operating across several major cities. The deportations came less than two weeks after around 50 Nigerian suspects were arrested in coordinated raids led by India’s Elite Anti Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement, known as EAGLE, working with Delhi Police. Investigators say the network was allegedly controlled by a Nigeria based kingpin identified only as “Nick,” who is wanted in multiple drug trafficking cases in India. Officials claim all the Nigerians arrested in Delhi were working for the fugitive mastermind, who is believed to have about 100 associates in the city alone. A forensic review of seized phones and laptops reportedly showed a client base of more than 3,000 people across India, pieced together from payment records, encrypted chats and delivery contacts. The syndicate is […]

AFCON 2025 Babangida Ikpeba back Super Eagles to restore pride

Atlanta 1996 Olympic gold medallists Tijani Babangida and Victor Ikpeba say the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco is a crucial chance for the Super Eagles to repair Nigeria’s football image after failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They noted that missing the World Cup for a second straight time still hurts players, officials and fans, making AFCON the key opportunity to restore national pride. Babangida told Tribalfootball he was disappointed with the Super Eagles’ display in the playoff defeat to DR Congo, saying the Congolese looked better organised and more determined on the day. He believes winning AFCON would help heal the emotional wounds of supporters who were left devastated by that loss. He is confident Nigeria can reach the final and possibly end their 12 year wait for a fourth continental crown. Rwanda accuses DR Congo, Burundi of breaking new peace deal

Rwanda has accused the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi of deliberately violating a ceasefire in eastern DR Congo just days after the three countries signed a US brokered peace agreement. Kigali’s foreign ministry said recent attacks in South Kivu “cannot be placed on Rwanda” and instead blamed the Congolese and Burundian armies for renewed violence near its border. In a statement, Rwanda alleged that DR Congo’s army FARDC and Burundi’s army FDNB have been systematically bombing civilian villages close to the Rwandan border using fighter jets and armed drones. It said M23 and allied AFC rebels had been “forced to counter” these operations, calling them deliberate violations of the Washington Accords signed on December 4. The renewed clashes come after Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi accused Rwanda earlier in the week of violating the same peace deal by shelling areas […]
