Independent marketers may sell Dangote petrol below N739

Some independent petroleum marketers partnering with Dangote Refinery may soon start selling petrol below N739 per litre as direct product deliveries begin.​The refinery has started virtual training for staff of its affiliate retail outlets and will follow up with free direct delivery of Premium Motor Spirit to their stations.​ Companies in the partnership include MRS, Ardova Petroleum, Garima, Heyden and Optimal, some of which had yet to sell at Dangote’s rate because they were awaiting direct supplies.​The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria National President, Abubakar Maigandi, said the margin between the N699 per litre gantry price and current pump prices makes reductions possible.​ He explained that independent marketers who receive free delivery from Dangote could sell for less than N739 per litre while still making profit in a competitive market.​He noted that the more than N25 per litre margin […]

US sets up to 15000 visa bond for Nigerians

The United States has introduced new visa rules that may require Nigerians applying for B1/B2 (business and tourism) visas to post a bond of up to 15000 dollars.​The bond is a financial guarantee, does not ensure visa approval and will not be refunded if paid without a clear instruction from a consular officer.​ According to details on the US State Department’s website, the updated list shows that 24 of the 38 affected countries are in Africa, including Nigeria.​The bond is targeted at nationals from countries the US classifies as high risk for overstaying their permitted time in the country.​ For Nigeria, the visa bond requirement will start on January 21 2026.​Eligible B1/B2 applicants from listed countries may be asked to post bonds of 5000, 10000 or 15000 dollars, with the exact sum decided at the visa interview.​ Applicants will also […]

O’Neil named new Strasbourg head coach

Ex-AGF Malami, family get N1.5bn bail

National Assembly seeks faster election justice

The National Assembly’s Constitution Review Committee has proposed that all election petitions must be decided before winners are sworn into office.​Lawmakers also want tribunals to conclude election petitions within 60 days and appellate courts to deliver judgments on related appeals within another 60 days.​ Under the proposal, the Supreme Court will handle all presidential election petitions as a court of first instance, with its decisions on such cases to be delivered within 60 days of filing.​Appeals from governorship election petitions will end at the Court of Appeal, which must also give its decisions within 60 days.​ The recommendations are part of 44 harmonised constitution amendment bills now before both chambers of the National Assembly for debate.​They include changes to Sections 232, 239 and 286 of the 1999 Constitution to shorten timelines for pre-election and post-election cases.​ For pre-election cases, the […]
