Tanker overturns on Liverpool Bridge as officials avert disaster

A major disaster was averted on Monday after a diesel laden tanker overturned on Liverpool Bridge, outward Apapa, in the Tin Can Island area of Lagos. Videos showed residents rushing to scoop the spilled diesel in jerrycans and other containers before authorities arrived.​ Emergency agencies, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Police, moved in quickly after the videos went viral. Trump Gaza peace board eyes 1 billion dollar fees

A draft charter for United States President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza Board of Peace asks member countries to pay 1 billion dollars if they want their membership to last more than three years. The document was sent to about 60 countries and sets out rules for how long states can serve on the body.​ Under the draft, each member would normally serve a term of up to three years from the date the charter takes effect. EU weighs tough response to Trump’s Greenland tariffs

European Union officials and lawmakers are calling for the first ever use of the bloc’s Anti Coercion Instrument in response to new tariff threats by United States President Donald Trump over Greenland. Trump has vowed escalating tariffs on Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Britain and Norway until Washington is allowed to buy Greenland.​ The affected countries already face US tariffs of 10 and 15 percent and have each sent small contingents of military personnel to Greenland. Osun court remands suspects over attempted ritual killing

A Special Court in Osogbo, Osun State, has ordered the remand of five suspects accused of attempting to kill a 16 year old boy, Farouq Abdulahi Taiwo, and harvest his organs in Ikire. The defendants, Awotunde Saudat, Muyideen Olutoki, Fatai Abiodun, Usman Ademola and Ismaila Abiodun, were charged with conspiracy and attempted murder.​ The court directed that the suspects be kept at the Ilesa Correctional Centre while the case progresses. The matter has been transferred to the Chief Magistrate Court, Ikire, under charge number MOS/SSA CID/15c/2025.​ According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly conspired on July 25 2025 at Ako area, Awotedo, to commit murder, an offence said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Osun Criminal Code. Nine states take lead on new tax harmonisation laws

Nine states have so far domesticated Nigeria’s new tax harmonisation laws designed to end multiple taxation and uncoordinated levies. The states are Bayelsa, Anambra, Ekiti, Gombe, Kogi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara and Zamfara, while 27 others are still at various stages of adoption.​ The reforms build on a model Tax Harmonisation Law developed by the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee for states and local governments. The aim is to tackle illegal collections, remove non-state actors from revenue drives and create a clearer, more predictable tax environment for businesses and citizens.​ Committee chairman Taiwo Oyedele said it is vital for states to pass their own harmonisation laws to address multiple taxation at sub-national level. Yusuf orders arrest of killers of Kano mother, six children

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered the police to immediately find and arrest those behind the killing of a woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in Kano. The victims were murdered in Dorayi Charanchi Quarters, a development that has thrown the community into mourning.​ In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, the governor described the attack as barbaric, senseless and a grave assault on human dignity. Osimhen, Ndidi, others leave Super Eagles AFCON camp

Four Super Eagles players have left Nigeria’s camp after the team’s victory over Egypt in the third-place match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.​ Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, Paul Onuachu and Chidozie Awaziem have all returned to their clubs in Europe following the game. Osimhen, Ndidi and Onuachu play in Turkey, while Awaziem is based in France.​ The four players departed Casablanca on a private jet shortly after the playoff match. Because of their exit, they will not attend the AFCON award ceremony scheduled to hold after Sunday’s final, as bronze medals were not presented on Saturday.
