Trump Says Would Like to Meet Iran Leader Khamenei

US President Donald Trump has expressed willingness to meet with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran show little progress. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in an interview that Trump is open to meeting anybody, including Iran's supreme leader. "I'm pretty confident in saying that if the Ayatollah said tomorrow he wanted to meet with President Trump, the president would meet him," Rubio told Bloomberg. Rubio emphasized that Trump's willingness to meet is not based on personal agreement with Khamenei, but on the belief that direct dialogue is the way to solve international problems. "Nation states need to interact with one another - I serve under a president that's willing to meet with anybody," the Secretary of State said. The conflict between the US and Iran began more […]

Hostilities Flare in Iran War as Oil Jumps with Talks at Stalemate

Gulf hostilities flared anew on Wednesday, with the US military saying Iranian missile attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and other regional targets were either thwarted or failed, as diplomacy between Washington and Tehran showed little progress. Two Iranian missiles shot at Kuwait fell short or broke apart in flight, while several ballistic missiles aimed at regional targets failed and three missiles heading for Bahrain were intercepted, US Central Command said. Since the conflict began in late February, Iran has repeatedly attacked targets in the Gulf region where US military bases are located. The US military also downed Iranian drones targeting civilian ships in regional waters and US forces in Kuwait, and carried out strikes on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz following attempted attacks by Iran. According to Iranian state media, the country's Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) attacked the US […]

2027: Babachir Considers Voting for Sowore, Rules Out APC, ADC, NDC

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said he may consider voting for activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore in the 2027 general election, while ruling out support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and National Democratic Coalition (NDC). Speaking to journalists, the former SGF expressed growing dissatisfaction with the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, suggesting that the government has not delivered on key promises. He questioned Tinubu's leadership, asking rhetorically, "So you valued being VP this much?" in reference to the presidency's perceived betrayal of promises made during the campaign. Lawal's consideration of Sowore comes after the activist was officially confirmed as the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for the 2027 presidential election. Sowore has promised a new direction for Nigeria, promising to change the APC's rule […]

₦75,000 COVID Grant Rumour Causes Stir in Jigawa

False rumours about a ₦75,000 COVID-19 grant have caused widespread confusion and excitement across Jigawa State, as residents scrambled to verify claims that the federal government was disbursing the amount to beneficiaries in the state. The rumour appears to have emerged from confusion over earlier government interventions, including the Jigawa State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (J-Cares) Program, under which over 4,200 youth and women entrepreneurs received ₦212 million in grants. Under that initiative, each beneficiary received ₦50,000, not ₦75,000. The National Coordinator of the Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), Dr. Abdulkareem Obaje, has disclosed that the programme has positively impacted the lives of over 70 million Nigerians across the country. Jigawa State is one of the frontline states, having drawn about $9.6 million under NG-CARES out of the expected $30 million. In September 2024, 12,600 […]
