Nigeria’s stability key to Ghana’s security – President Mahama

Ghanaian President John Mahama has underscored the importance of Nigeria’s peace and prosperity to Ghana’s own security, describing the two nations as “twins of the same mother.” Speaking in Accra as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Host at the 4th African Heritage Awards, he said many Ghanaians trace their roots to Nigeria, particularly to Yoruba kingdoms, which makes developments in Nigeria a matter of “keen security interest” for Ghana. Mahama joked that the only real friction between the two countries comes from rivalry over Jollof rice and football, stressing that “otherwise, we are the same people.” Highlighting Nigeria’s population of about 250 million, he explained that Ghana’s prayers for Nigeria’s success stem from both brotherhood and self‑interest, noting that instability could push large numbers of Nigerians toward smaller neighbours like Ghana. He said he wakes up every day praying […]

Ex-NATO chief says UK ‘not safe’

Former NATO secretary general George Robertson has warned that Britain’s national security is “in peril”, declaring that the UK is “not safe” under current defence arrangements. In extracts of a speech reported by the Financial Times and BBC, Robertson accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government of “corrosive complacency” on defence. He said the Iran war should serve as a “rude wake‑up call” to the risks the UK faces. “We are underprepared. We are underinsured. We are under attack. We are not safe,” the former Labour defence secretary was quoted as saying. Robertson led a government‑commissioned review of Britain’s defence capabilities, published last year, and was expecting ministers to follow it with a 10‑year defence investment plan. That plan was meant to be released late last year but has yet to appear. He told the Financial Times there was a gap […]

China calls US blockade of Iran ports ‘dangerous and irresponsible’

China has condemned the United States over its blockade of Iranian ports, describing Washington’s actions as “dangerous and irresponsible” amid soaring tensions in the Gulf. US President Donald Trump ordered a naval blockade threatening to sink ships entering or leaving Iranian ports after weekend peace talks between Washington and Tehran collapsed. The blockade took effect at 1400 GMT on Monday, despite the two sides having agreed to a fragile two‑week ceasefire just days earlier. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said the US decision to increase military deployments and enforce a targeted blockade would only heighten tensions and undermine the already fragile ceasefire. He warned that the move further endangers safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments. Iran has effectively closed the strait to most traffic, allowing only vessels serving countries it regards […]

Before heading to the Federal High Court, El-Rufai first appeared at the Kaduna State High Court at about 9 00 a.m., but proceedings there did not go as planned. Patrol vehicles have also been positioned at strategic locations around the venue. The convention is taking place against the backdrop of a leadership crisis in the ADC, with two factions laying claim to control of the party. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier suspended recognition of all factions, following Court of Appeal rulings and […]

JUST IN: Supreme Court to hear appeals on PDP leadership dispute on April 22

The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of two appeals filed by the Kabiru Turaki‑led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging recent judgments on the party’s national leadership dispute. A five‑member panel of the apex court headed by Justice Mohammed Garba set the date on Tuesday while ruling on applications seeking accelerated hearing. The court granted the requests, allowing a departure from its usual rules and abridging the time within which the respondents must file their briefs. Under the timetable, the respondents have five days to file their briefs of argument, while the appellants are to file any reply briefs within two days. The court then adjourned until April 22 for substantive hearing of the two appeals. The Turaki group is appealing two March 9, 2026 Court of Appeal judgments which affirmed earlier decisions of […]

Scarlet Gomez: My husband not threatened by on-screen kissing

Actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed that her husband is not bothered by her on-screen kissing scenes, saying his confidence and trust in their marriage make it a non-issue. Speaking on the show “Curiosity Made Me Ask,” Gomez said her husband fully understands her job as an actress and does not feel insecure or threatened by the intimate roles she plays on set. She made the remark after media personality Isbaeu jokingly criticised how people often downplay on-screen intimacy by insisting they only kissed a character, not the actual actor. He quipped that someone who kisses veteran actor Yomi Fash-Lanso cannot later claim, “It is Joshua I kissed.” Responding, Gomez said: “I’m married to a man, not a boy. He doesn’t have a small ego, and he trusts his wife. Moving on.” She emphasised that her husband’s maturity and trust allow […]

Why artists need discipline in music industry, by Lojay

Afrobeats singer Lojay has highlighted the importance of discipline for artists who want a long and successful career in the music industry. Speaking on the “I Said What I Said” podcast, he said his early idea of fame was about “frolicking with a lot of ladies” but that his outlook changed as he understood the realities and pressures of the industry. Lojay stressed that there is a lot of temptation in music and that artists will “see a lot of things” they are not meant to touch, especially when sudden attention comes from many admirers. He noted that when an artist has “about 100 girls talking to you,” that is exactly when discipline is most needed. He explained that artists must watch both their actions and their words if they want to protect their reputation and build a sustainable brand, contrary to […]

Man City will have ‘psychological edge’ over Arsenal in title showdown – Rooney

Wayne Rooney says Manchester City will hold a psychological advantage over Arsenal in the Premier League title race because of their experience and composure in decisive moments. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster clash at the Etihad Stadium, the former Manchester United striker noted that City’s familiarity with winning titles under Pep Guardiola gives them a mental edge. He argued that Guardiola and his players are better equipped to stay calm under pressure than Arsenal’s relatively younger squad. “I think City will have the edge on that, just purely the manager and players they’ve got. They will be able to stay a little calmer than the Arsenal players,” Rooney said on The Wayne Rooney Show. He added that teams on a poor run of results often slip into a negative mindset that can damage performance. “When you go on a run […]
