GMA accuses Health Minister of overstepping role in Tamale hospital CEO’s removal

Finance Ministry submits bill to Parliament to end sole-sourcing of power contracts

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson made the announcement on April 23 2025, during a session on the Ghana Energy Compact under Mission 300, organised by the World Bank. Government, GoldFields reach agreement on Damang mine transition

The Government of Ghana and GoldFields Ghana Limited have reached a transitional agreement for the operation of the Damang Mine. The agreement was announced in a statement signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu. It stated that under the new arrangement, a 12-month mining lease will be issued to GoldFields’ subsidiary, Abosso Goldfields Limited, while awaiting parliamentary ratification, which is expected in May 2025. During this period, GoldFields will resume open-pit mining activities to safeguard jobs and conduct feasibility studies to assess the mine’s reserves and future viability. In addition to mining, the processing of existing stockpiles will continue under the supervision of a joint management team made up of representatives from both the government and GoldFields. NPP threatens protest over suspension of Chief Justice

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly criticized President John Mahama’s suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. Chief Justice Torkornoo: Names of petitioners, full allegations and her official responses leak online

This is coming a day after Chief Justice Torkornoo was suspended from office, following the establishment of a prima facie case, paving the way for a full inquiry. President John Dramani Mahama has set up a 5-member committee to handle the inquiry. There is no time frame on when the inquiry should be completed. Even though the 1992 Constitution indicates that the proceedings should be held in camera, the full contents of the petitions have surfaced on social media. POLICE ARREST 10 SUSPECTS FOR ILLEGAL MINING ALONG THE ABOI FOREST NEAR SAMREBOI

The Ghana Police Service in a special intelligence operation conducted yesterday, 18th April, 2025 arrested 10 suspects for illegal mining activities in the Aboi forest, near Samreboi in the Western region.Eleven (11) escavators and one (1) bulldozer which were found at the site, have been impounded and efforts are underway to get them removed from the forest into safe custody.In a similar operation on 17th April, 2025, the Police team arrested 29 suspects including 21 Ghanaians and 8 Chinese in the Subri forest and along the Tano river. Six (6) escavators, Four (4) motorbikes, Two (2) Toyota Hilux vehicles and One (1) Rav4 vehicle found at the site were impounded. Ghana National Fire Service intensifies measures to curb market fires

According to the Divisional Officer II and Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Desmond Ackah the Service is collaborating with market authorities to strengthen fire safety, particularly in areas with wooden infrastructure, which are more susceptible to fire outbreaks. In an interview on JoyNews on Friday, DO II Ackah highlighted the need for modern fire prevention measures, including the installation of early warning systems and the construction of adequate escape routes to ease evacuation in the event of a fire.
