12 Galamsey Suspects Arrested in Western Region

The fight against illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana’s Western Region has chalked another success following a joint security operation that led to the arrest of 12 suspected illegal miners and the destruction of 25 chanfang machines. The operation, carried out by the Western Regional Security Council (REGSEC), comes after the Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) petitioned authorities over the destruction of its rubber plantation. While cocoa farms have long been victims of illegal mining, rubber plantations are now becoming a new target. GREL revealed that more than six hectares of rubber plantation — including 2,000 mature trees ready for tapping — were destroyed in the Adiewoso enclave of the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality. The company added that toxic chemicals used in galamsey pits are not only killing rubber trees prematurely but also drastically reducing yields. The special operation, launched on Thursday, […]

New Arrest in Immigration Officer Amoah Murder Case

Another arrest has been made in the ongoing investigation into the alleged murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah. The suspect, Thomas Zigah, popularly known as Nii Jaase, was arraigned before the Adabraka District Court on Friday, August 22, 2025. His arrest deepens public interest in a case that has remained in the spotlight since Amoah’s tragic disappearance and subsequent killing. During the hearing, counsel for the accused requested that his client be allowed to seek medical treatment at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital rather than the Police Hospital. The lawyer argued that Zigah’s health condition had worsened while in custody at the Railway Police Station, citing “red eyes” and the need for independent medical evaluation. However, the prosecution opposed the request, pointing out that the suspect had already been taken to the Police Hospital twice, where he was treated […]

That is why we have made dedicated numbers available so that patients can call in,” he said. However, the minister cautioned that not all complaints automatically prove valid. “The fact that you call does not mean you are right. We will review the matter carefully and deal with it appropriately,” he added. To ensure visibility and accessibility: All health facilities, […]

CNMAG Criticises GRNMA Secretary Over Minister Comments

The Concerned Nurses and Midwifery Association of Ghana (CNMAG) has strongly criticised comments made by Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), describing his remarks against Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh as “highly inappropriate.” The controversy comes in the wake of the recent assault on a nurse at Ridge Hospital, which has sparked public outcry and debates within the health sector. Following the incident, a viral video captured Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh shaking hands with Ralph Saint Williams, one of the alleged perpetrators of the assault. This drew criticism, with Dr. Tenkorang-Twum questioning why the Minister exchanged pleasantries with Ralph. The GRNMA General Secretary argued that the Minister’s gesture showed “disrespect” towards nurses and subsequently issued a 48-hour ultimatum to government to arrest Ralph, warning that GRNMA would “advise itself” if no […]

PAC Orders OHCS to Refund GH¢175k in Audit Probe

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has directed the Office of the Head of the Civil Service (OHCS) to refund GH¢175,000 within 30 days into the recovery accounts of the Auditor-General (AG). This follows the OHCS’s failure to provide payment vouchers covering the said amount during the 2024 audit. During its sitting last Tuesday, the PAC, chaired by Abena Osei-Asare, emphasized that failure to provide documentation was a recurring issue in OHCS audits. She stressed the need for immediate reforms to ensure compliance and prevent future infractions. “Failure to show documentation runs through all the infractions you have been cited for,” Mrs. Osei-Asare said. The PAC insisted that the GH¢175,000 must be refunded, citing long-established accountability protocols, despite OHCS later presenting partial acquittals without the required supporting documents. The PAC session examined the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report, which flagged multiple […]
