MultiChoice Ghana Denies Agreement on DStv Price Reduction

MultiChoice Ghana has dismissed claims that it has agreed to reduce subscription prices for DStv services, contradicting an earlier announcement by Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George. In a statement issued on Friday, September 5, the pay-TV operator clarified that while discussions with the government are ongoing, no final agreement has been reached regarding tariff reductions. “MultiChoice Group will fully participate in the established Working Committee. Bole-Bamboi MP Petitions Interior Minister Over Security Misconduct Claims

Member of Parliament for Bole-Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana, has formally petitioned the Minister for the Interior over alleged misconduct by security forces enforcing a curfew in Bole and surrounding communities. In a letter dated September 4, Sulemana said he was acting on complaints from the Arise Bole Youth, who accused law enforcement officers of harassment, intimidation, and other abuses during curfew operations. The petition cited two serious allegations: dragging residents from their homes and detaining them without lawful justification. Witnesses further reported cases of harassment, physical assault, and degrading treatment. Disturbingly, one account suggested that an elderly man lost his life after an encounter with security personnel. The MP described the allegations as alarming, insisting that such conduct, if confirmed, erodes both public safety and confidence in the security system. He called for an urgent, transparent, and independent investigation to uncover […]

Nana Yaa Jantuah Calls Out MultiChoice Ghana Over Subscription Pricing Dispute

Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has weighed in on the ongoing standoff between MultiChoice Ghana and the government, urging the pay-TV operator to reconsider its stance in the public interest. Speaking on Prime Insights, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) said if MultiChoice feels excessively burdened by regulatory demands, it should simply cease operations. “This is a sovereign nation, and you are coming here to do business because you are earning money. So why are you here? If you’re not making a profit, you should just say, ‘You are stressing us, so we are folding up.’ The fact that you are still here means there is some kind of benefit that endures from your operations. So why don’t you calm down and say, ‘This is your country. I’m here,’” she remarked. Jantuah argued that MultiChoice’s continued […]

NCA to Recover Fines from MultiChoice Ghana Over DStv Pricing Dispute

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has reaffirmed that the National Communications Authority (NCA) is fully empowered to recover fines imposed on MultiChoice Ghana for failing to comply with regulatory directives. At a press briefing, Mr. George disclosed that the pay-TV operator had delayed in submitting a detailed breakdown of its bouquet pricing structure. This delay triggered penalties of GH¢10,000 per day for 24 days, in line with the Electronic Communications Act. “The NCA still has the mandate to collect what is due—10,000 cedis a day, over 24 days—from MultiChoice for failing to provide the requested information within the stipulated time,” the Minister stated. The dispute stems from concerns over the cost of DStv subscriptions in Ghana and a suspension notice earlier issued to the company. On August 4, the NCA requested detailed cost build-up […]
