ARCC issues directives for Queenmother’s burial rites

The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has urged residents of the Greater Kumasi metropolis to strictly adhere to directives from the Manhyia Palace as the late Queenmother, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, is laid to rest on Thursday, September 18, 2025. According to the directives, schools and markets will be closed on the day. Pharmacies, banks, fuel stations, restaurants, and transport operators have been exempted from the restrictions on movement. Utility companies and essential service providers, including the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, and Health Service personnel, have also been exempted. DVLA clears 440,000 driver’s licence backlog

The Minister for Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, has announced that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has successfully cleared a backlog of more than 440,000 unprinted driver’s licence cards. According to the Minister, as of December 2024 the DVLA had accumulated 440,000 pending licences, but all have now been printed and dispatched to DVLA offices across the country for collection. “As at December 2024, the DVLA had a backlog of 440,000 unprinted driver licence cards. Currently, all those backlog cards have been printed and dispatched to the various DVLA offices for collection,” Mr. Bukari confirmed. He further revealed that an additional 26,045 licence cards are in the final stages of lamination and will soon be delivered. This development is expected to ease frustrations among applicants who have experienced lengthy delays in acquiring their licences.

Ablakwa gives diplomatic passports to 5 Ghanaians

Asiedu Nketia urges patience among NDC members

National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has urged party members who have not yet received government appointments to remain loyal and continue supporting President John Mahama’s leadership. Michael Aidoo gives 120 students full scholarships

Council of State member and Western North NDC Regional Chairman, Michael Aidoo, has awarded full scholarships to 120 brilliant but needy students in the Western North Region to study at Kaaf University in the Gomoa East District. Mr. Aidoo, who is also the founder of Kaaf University, said the initiative is part of his commitment to reducing illiteracy and poverty, especially in rural communities where many young people lack access to higher education. He expressed concern that without such support, many youth turn to alcoholism and other negative behaviors, which hinder their future prospects. Mahama launches road project for 166 constituencies

President John Dramani Mahama has launched a nationwide road initiative that will see 166 constituencies benefit from 40 kilometres of road construction each over the next four years. The President made this known during the sod-cutting ceremony for the Dawhenya-Afienya-Dodowa Road Project in Accra on Tuesday, September 16. He explained that the selected constituencies were identified as having some of the most deteriorated road networks in the country. According to him, each constituency will receive 10 kilometres of roads, drains, and pavements every year for four years, amounting to 40 kilometres in total. FDA to inspect school food vendors in Central Region

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has announced plans to inspect the certifications of food vendors in schools to ensure that pupils are served safe and healthy meals. Regional Director of the FDA, Francisca Anokye, said the initiative is aimed at preventing uncertified vendors from operating in schools, a move she believes will protect children from foodborne illnesses. Tanyigbe chieftaincy dispute: Akoto Family urges calm

The Akoto Royal Family, custodians of the Doku Dzehe stool, has appealed to the Adiko Royal Family to respect due process in the ongoing chieftaincy dispute at Tanyigbe in the Volta Region. Ashanti assembly member killed sparks investigation
