Ghana Recovers Over $15 Million from International Crypto Fraud Network – Attorney General

Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has announced that Ghana has successfully recovered more than 15 million dollars from an international organised online crime syndicate that defrauded citizens through cryptocurrency schemes. Speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series on Thursday, Dr. Ayine praised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and other investigative agencies for their coordinated efforts in protecting Ghana’s financial system. According to him, the criminal network deliberately targeted Ghanaians and laundered stolen funds through digital currencies such as Bitcoin and USDT. “EOCO successfully used our local laws to freeze and recover virtual assets hidden in foreign jurisdictions. On November 19, 2025, Zodia Custody converted the crypto assets of the criminal enterprise and deposited 15,191,730.13 dollars into the EOCO exhibit account,” Dr. Ayine disclosed. He described the recovery as a major breakthrough in the fight against transnational cybercrime, stressing that […]

Interior Ministry Denies Assassination Claims on Kissi Agyebeng

The Interior Ministry has denied claims of any assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, saying it has no record or report of such an incident. The response follows a statement from the Office of the Special Prosecutor, which alleged that Mr Agyebeng had survived two assassination attempts while carrying out his duties. The claim was mentioned by Samuel Appiah Darko, Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the OSP, during a Newsfile appearance on December 6, 2025, where he also alleged that he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police officers. In its December 8 statement, the Ministry said it takes the allegations seriously because such claims, if confirmed, could undermine the government’s work in fighting corruption. GES explains why some SHS students repeat a year, Dr Tandoh says it’s a learning support process

Former Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh, has explained why some SHS students are made to repeat a year, saying the practice is part of a structured educational process, not a punishment. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said repetition has always been used when students have not fully grasped the material. According to him, the process today is different from the mass promotion and mass repetition systems that existed years ago. “At first, repetition was done when students had not done well. It is a process,” he said, adding that schools follow specific steps before a student is asked to repeat. Dr Tandoh emphasized that students learn at different speeds. Some absorb content quickly, others need more time, and the system must acknowledge those differences. He noted that Ghana’s education system historically disadvantaged […]

Ghana Mineworkers’ Union Demands Urgent Reforms as Casualisation and Outsourcing Surge

The Ghana Mineworkers’ Union is calling for urgent reforms in the mining sector, warning that growing casualisation, outsourcing, and unresolved financial sector problems are putting thousands of workers at risk. At the Union’s National Executive Council meeting in Accra, General Secretary Abdul-Moomin Gbana said miners are not benefiting from the sector’s strong performance, even though gold prices reached about US$4,000 this year. Instead, he said companies continue to post massive profits while pushing workers into insecure roles. According to him, more than 90 percent of workers in the industry are now on temporary, casual, or fixed-term contracts. He blamed this on poor implementation of local content policies that have allowed core mining jobs to be outsourced under conditions that weaken job security. Mr Gbana acknowledged progress at Bogoso-Prestea, praising Heath Goldfields Ltd for clearing most outstanding salaries and preparing the […]

GNAT President links rising basic school exam failures to politics and delayed capitation grants

The President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Rev. Isaac Owusu, says the growing rate of exam failures among basic school pupils is tied to the heavy politicisation of education and persistent delays in releasing the capitation grant. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he argued that government alone cannot run basic education effectively without meaningful support from parents. He added that moves to restrict Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) contributions have only made conditions in schools worse. Rev. Owusu explained that the capitation grant is nowhere near enough to fund school operations, considering that it has to cover exams, sports, meetings, minor repairs, and teaching materials. He revealed that no basic school receives more than GH₵1,500 per term, which creates serious challenges for schools trying to provide quality education. He warned that pupils will continue to struggle in WAEC […]
