Firefighters rescue two after car plunges into ditch on Kwahu–Abetifi–Abene road

Firefighters from the Mpraeso Fire Station spent nearly six hours rescuing two men after their vehicle skidded off the Kwahu–Abetifi–Abene road and plunged into a deep ditch late Wednesday evening. The rescue team, led by Station Officer II Sanusi Issah, arrived to find the driver trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle. After hours of cutting through twisted metal and lifting debris, the firefighters successfully freed him from the wreckage. Both the driver and a passenger were immediately handed over to paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and transported to the Atibie Government Hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigations suggest that brake failure was the cause of the crash, sending the vehicle off the road and into the ditch. The collision caused extensive damage to the front of the car. PSWU urges urgent talks with Energy Ministry over proposed PURC–Energy Commission merger

The Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana has urged the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to immediately engage with workers over the reported plan to merge the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and the Energy Commission. In an internal memo, the Union raised serious concerns about job security and staff welfare, warning that the proposed merger appears to be advancing without adequate consultation with the affected employees. According to the memo, workers within both institutions fear the consolidation could lead to redundancies, reassignments, or transfers, potentially destabilizing existing employment arrangements. “We believe this proposal carries significant implications for employees, and engaging with the Ministry will help us understand the details, offer suggestions, and ensure workers’ interests are protected,” the Union stated. The PSWU emphasized that discussions around the restructuring must involve direct consultations […]

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Elikem Kotoko, says he would welcome the sight of former President Nana Akufo-Addo being “hauled to court” over what he describes as financial irregularities and organised corruption linked to the construction of the National Cathedral. Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show, Kotoko accused the former president of masterminding what he called “an organised crime unit set up to siphon or launder state funds” under the guise of a religious project. “Let me be frank with you, if wishes were horses, I would be happy to see even former president Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo being hauled to court to answer for that hole he dug, which seems to be an organised crime unit that he set up to siphon or launder state funds,” he said. Kotoko drew a sharp contrast between Akufo-Addo’s actions and […]

The Minority in Parliament says it has not yet decided whether to participate in the vetting of Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, amid ongoing controversy over the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin stated that his caucus is “keeping all options open” as it closely observes developments related to what he described as serious procedural breaches by the Justice Pwamang Committee, which recommended Justice Torkornoo’s removal. “To deal with the issue of the CJ’s removal, whether or not we are going to participate in any process — for us, all cards are on the table,” Afenyo-Markin said. He accused the committee of undermining due process and delivering what he called “a travesty of justice.” “What that committee has done — the purported recommendation — should prick their own conscience, all the committee members,” he […]

The Minority in Parliament has urged the government to immediately release funds for the payment of salaries owed to nurses and midwives, insisting that financial provisions for the payments were already approved.
