The Niger State Private Health Facilities Agency (NISPHFA) has shut down 11 private health facilities in Suleja, Niger State, for operating without registration and licensing in a major crackdown on illegal healthcare operations.
The agency, which is charged with overseeing the registration and monitoring of private health establishments in Niger State, described the closures as part of its ongoing campaign to end quackery and protect citizens from substandard healthcare services.
The closed facilities were identified as operating illegally in various locations across Suleja Local Government Area, offering medical services to the public without meeting the required regulatory standards or obtaining proper registration from the agency.
The shutdown comes under the agency’s “crackdown on illegal health facilities” initiative, which has been tagged with the campaign hashtag #EndQuackery as part of the broader “New Niger Health Agenda” and healthcare reform efforts in the state.
This is not the first time health facilities in Suleja have been closed for regulatory violations. In October 2025, the Niger State Ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health sealed three hospitals—Base Medical Center, Emirates Clinic and Maternity, and Ayisha Hospitals—during an inspection exercise across Suleja and Gurara local government areas.
The earlier inspection visited 30 primary and secondary health facilities, including laboratories, and found several offenses ranging from lack of proof of premises registration, absence of qualified medical staff and unlicensed practitioners to poor sanitation, lack of pharmacy or laboratory departments, and non-compliance with safety standards.
In the 2025 exercise, several health facilities were sanctioned and issued fines for various offenses, while the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high standards in healthcare delivery and warned that any facility found violating operational guidelines would face appropriate sanctions.
The current closure of 11 facilities in Suleja underscores the growing concern over illegal healthcare operations in Niger State and the need for stricter regulatory oversight to protect public health and safety.
