The United States government has announced a temporary halt to immigration applications from 19 countries, citing security, documentation, and cooperation concerns with the affected states.
US officials said the move targets countries that have failed to meet required standards on identity verification, information sharing, or the repatriation of their citizens who are ordered to leave the US.
The suspension affects several categories of immigration, including some family-based, work-related, and other visa programmes, although limited exemptions may apply for humanitarian or urgent cases.
Authorities stressed that the measure is under ongoing review and could be lifted once the listed countries improve cooperation on security checks, travel documents, and migration management.
Governments of the affected nations have been formally notified and urged to work with US agencies to resolve outstanding issues and restore full immigration processing as soon as possible.
