Nigerian chess master Tunde Onakoya will represent the WR Chess team at the World Team Rapid and Blitz Championship in Hong Kong this June.
In a post on X, Onakoya said he was proud to join the star studded team. He revealed that he will play alongside chess legend Viswanathan Anand, as well as akanemsko, Wadim Rosenstein and other top ranked players from around the world.
The World Team Rapid and Blitz Championship is one of the major team events on the global chess calendar. It brings together elite grandmasters and mixed squads to compete in fast paced rapid and blitz formats.
Onakoya, founder of the Chess in Slums Africa initiative, has gained international recognition for his advocacy work and record breaking marathon chess sessions. His selection for WR Chess is seen as another milestone in his rise on the global chess stage.
