United States President Donald Trump is set to hold a high level meeting with his top national security team to review the war with Iran and discuss the next steps.
US media report that the talks, scheduled for Monday in Washington, will focus on both military plans and the possibility of reviving stalled negotiations.
The meeting comes as hopes for a diplomatic breakthrough have dimmed following the collapse of the latest round of talks in Pakistan.
Tensions remain high, with both the US and Iran publicly insisting they are ready for further confrontation if diplomacy fails.
Trump has previously signalled that he wants a way out of the costly conflict but has refused to lift the naval blockade that Iran says must end before any final agreement.
He has also warned that if no deal is reached quickly, the US could resort to heavy strikes on key infrastructure targets in Iran.
Ahead of the security meeting, Trump has repeated that Iran can contact the US if it wants to resume serious talks.
However, Iranian leaders remain sceptical, accusing Washington of using threats and pressure instead of building trust for a lasting settlement.
Analysts say the outcome of the talks with Trump’s security advisers could shape whether the current ceasefire holds or the region slides back into a wider war.
Regional allies are watching closely as they brace for either an expanded diplomatic push or a renewed round of military escalation.

Hezbollah leader rejects Lebanon–Israel direct talks
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has rejected Lebanon’s planned direct negotiations with Israel, branding them a “grave sin” that will destabilise the country. His remarks come after Lebanon and Israel’s US ambassadors held two rare meetings in Washington in recent weeks, the first such encounters in decades. The initial meeting helped secure a truce in the ongoing Israel–Hezbollah war, and Beirut has been preparing for direct talks aimed at reaching a peace deal with Israel, a country it has officially been at war with since 1948. “We categorically reject direct negotiations with Israel, and those in power should know that their actions will not benefit Lebanon or themselves,” Qassem said in a statement broadcast on Hezbollah’s Al‑Manar TV channel. He urged authorities to “back down from their grave sin that is putting Lebanon in a spiral of instability,” accusing the government […]
