In a significant shift, US President Donald Trump has called on Israel to “immediately stop the bombing of Gaza,” stating he believes Hamas is ready for a “lasting peace.”
The statement, posted on his Truth Social platform, marks the first time Trump has explicitly told key ally Israel to halt its military campaign. He stated the cessation of bombing is necessary to safely and quickly free the hostages held by Hamas.
Trump shared a Hamas declaration on his social media and posted a video from the Oval Office, calling it a “very special day, maybe unprecedented.” He thanked mediating countries like Qatar and Egypt for their efforts.
The announcement appears to have surprised the Israeli government. Reports indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu views Hamas’s statement as insufficient and not fully aligned with the US peace plan. A senior Hamas official also called Trump’s plan “vague and ambiguous,” despite finding his call to stop bombing “encouraging.”

Lower patience contributes to strain in modern marriages – BBNaija Tochi
Big Brother Naija star Tochi has said that lower levels of patience, tolerance and endurance among today’s couples are a major reason many modern marriages are under intense strain. Sharing his views on Instagram, he argued that people of this generation “don’t have the same level of tolerance, patience and endurance our mothers and fathers had.” According to him, many young spouses are now “too woke”, quick to walk away from relationships rather than work through challenges and sacrifices that previous generations accepted as part of marriage. He noted that this mindset, combined with social media pressure and changing values, has made it harder for couples to stay committed when problems arise. Tochi suggested that modern marriages should even operate more like formal contracts, where partners understand clearly the weight of the vows they are taking. In his view, if […]

Arbeloa told me I’ve been demoted to fourth striker – Mbappé
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has claimed that head coach Álvaro Arbeloa told him he is now only the fourth-choice striker at the club. The France captain made the remark after starting on the bench in Los Blancos’ 2–0 La Liga win over Real Oviedo at the Santiago Bernabéu. Mbappé, who recently returned from a hamstring injury, insisted he was fully fit and ready to start the match. “I’m 100% fine. I didn’t play because, for the coach, I’ve been the fourth-choice striker behind (Franco) Mastantuono, Vini and Gonzalo,” he told reporters in the mixed zone. The 27-year-old explained that Arbeloa opted to start Vinícius Júnior and youngster Gonzalo García in attack, with teenage sensation Mastantuono also ahead of him in the pecking order. “I was ready to start, but Arbeloa informed me that I am now the fourth striker. Several people have been injured after violent clashes linked to a Libyan league football match spiralled into street protests that reached the heart of Tripoli. The unrest began during a high-stakes game between Tripoli’s Al-Ittihad and Misrata’s Swehly at Tarhuna Stadium, about 65 kilometres southeast of the capital. Tensions flared in the 87th minute when the referee rejected loud penalty appeals from Al-Ittihad players and fans. Enraged supporters stormed the pitch, triggering chaotic scenes in which stadium property was vandalised and security personnel and guards sustained injuries. Local media and eyewitnesses reported that a broadcast van belonging to Libya Sport TV, several security vehicles and parts of the stadium infrastructure were set on fire. Man City battle fatigue ahead of FA Cup final clash with troubled Chelsea
Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are battling mounting fatigue as they prepare to face a troubled Chelsea side in Saturday’s FA Cup final at Wembley. City are chasing a domestic cup double while still locked in a tight Premier League title race with Arsenal, leaving the squad stretched by a relentless schedule. Guardiola’s men were in league action as recently as Wednesday, when they beat Crystal Palace 3–0 to close the gap on Arsenal to two points with two games remaining. In contrast, Chelsea have had a full week to rest and train at Cobham, a gap the City boss believes could hand the London club a physical edge at Wembley. “After the FA Cup, we have Bournemouth, we play every three days. Chelsea have a week at home training, preparing the final,” Guardiola said. “We have to travel to […]

US Secretary of State Rubio denies fashion inspiration from Maduro
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed claims that he took fashion inspiration from deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro after a photo of him in a grey Nike tracksuit went viral online. Rubio was photographed aboard Air Force One in the outfit while travelling with President Donald Trump to China for high-level talks. Social media users quickly noticed that the tracksuit looked similar to the Nike Tech Fleece worn by Maduro when he was captured by US forces and pictured handcuffed inside a helicopter in January. The resemblance sparked a wave of memes and comments suggesting the top US diplomat was trolling or mocking the ousted Venezuelan strongman. Responding to reporters’ questions in Beijing, Rubio laughed off the comparison and insisted there was no hidden message behind his choice of clothing. “There’s no context. It’s a nice suit,” he […]

India Faces Pressure From Iran War
As the conflict involving Iran enters its third month with no clear resolution in sight, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to reduce spending and conserve resources amid growing economic pressure linked to rising global energy costs. Speaking during a public event in Hyderabad, Modi encouraged Indians to work from home when possible, limit unnecessary foreign travel, reduce fuel consumption and avoid excessive purchases of gold. The appeal has drawn comparisons to the Covid-19 period, when the government relied on nationwide public participation to manage economic and social challenges. This time, the government’s focus is on protecting India’s foreign exchange reserves and limiting pressure on the national economy as the war in the Middle East disrupts global energy markets. India remains heavily dependent on imported energy, purchasing nearly 90% of its crude oil and about half of its […]

Alex Murdaugh to Face New Murder Trial
Alex Murdaugh, the former lawyer convicted of murdering his wife and son, is set to face a new trial after South Carolina’s Supreme Court overturned his murder convictions. The court ruled unanimously that Murdaugh did not receive a fair trial in connection with the 2021 killings of his wife Maggie and son Paul. Judges concluded that comments and actions by court clerk Rebecca Hill improperly influenced the jury during the original proceedings. According to the ruling, Hill encouraged jurors to closely monitor Murdaugh’s testimony and suggested they should not fully trust him while the trial was underway. The high-profile case attracted massive international attention and inspired documentaries, podcasts, books and television productions focused on the powerful South Carolina legal family. Murdaugh, 56, had originally been sentenced to two life terms for the murders of his wife, 52-year-old Maggie Murdaugh, and […]

Wes Streeting Quits Starmer Government
Wes Streeting has resigned as UK health secretary following days of growing speculation about tensions within the Labour government and questions surrounding Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s leadership. In a strongly worded resignation letter, Streeting criticised Starmer’s leadership style and warned that the Labour Party risks losing public confidence if it fails to provide a clearer political direction. Although he stopped short of officially launching a leadership campaign, Streeting suggested Labour should begin preparing for a future leadership transition and called for a “broad” contest involving multiple candidates. The former health secretary said remaining in government after losing confidence in the prime minister would have been “dishonourable and unprincipled.” Despite his resignation, Streeting praised recent progress within the National Health Service and stressed that his departure was not linked to policy disagreements, but rather concerns about the leadership of both the […]
