US President Donald Trump has described the ongoing war with Iran as a little diversion during his second term, even as opinion polls show that many Americans oppose the conflict.
Speaking at an event in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he promoted his no tax on tips measure from last year’s major tax reform bill, the 79 year old leader praised his current economic record. He told supporters that the United States had the best economy in its history during his first term and that things are even better now.
Trump referred to the war in Iran as a diversion to the lovely country of Iran and insisted that military action was necessary to prevent really bad things from happening. He was apparently referring to concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
An Ipsos poll conducted last weekend found that 51 percent of over 1,000 respondents believe the Iran war is not worth its costs. Less than a quarter, 24 percent, said the war is worth it.
Another poll by Quinnipiac University showed that 65 percent of US voters blame Trump for the recent increase in petrol prices. The rise in fuel costs has been linked to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the conflict.
The same Quinnipiac poll reported that only 36 percent of voters approve of how Trump is handling the Iran situation, while 58 percent disapprove.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil shipments, has affected energy prices worldwide and intensified public frustration over the war in the United States.

The latest exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran has raised fresh concerns about instability in the Middle East, highlighting the fragile state of regional ceasefires and the challenges facing ongoing diplomatic efforts. The confrontation began after Iran launched missiles at Israel, describing the attack as retaliation for Israeli operations in Beirut. Israel responded by carrying out air strikes inside Iran, marking the first direct attack on Iranian territory since a ceasefire between the two countries was reached in April. The escalation unfolded despite public calls from US President Donald Trump urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further military action. Days earlier, Trump had reportedly told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refrain from further attacks, but Israel struck a petrochemical plant in Iran's southwest along with military targets elsewhere. Hours earlier, Trump said new strikes by Israel and Iran would not affect his administration's peace talks with Tehran, […]

The retaliation followed Israel saying it fired on western and central Iran in tit-for-tat action against Tehran's assault on Sunday of 11 missiles, all of which were intercepted with no casualties. Israel's military and Iranian local media said Monday that Israel struck a petrochemical company in Mahshahr in southwestern Iran, a major industrial complex that had been hit before in April. The escalation came after Israel carried out an air raid on southern Beirut, killing at least two people and wounding 20, which Iran said "crossed all red […]
