Silas Onu Exits PDP, Joins ADC Over Leadership Crisis
A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State , Barr. Silas Onu , has officially resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) , accusing a few sitting governors of hijacking the PDP’s internal affairs and undermining democratic processes .
Onu, who also ran as the PDP’s senatorial candidate in Ebonyi South during the February 4, 2024 rerun election , announced the move in a letter dated July 16, 2025 , addressed to the Obiozara Ward Chairman .
“It’s with a heavy heart—but for a more patriotic reason—that I resign from the PDP with immediate effect,” he wrote.
He urged his supporters to follow him into the ADC, describing it as a more stable and principled platform for Nigeria’s political future.
“PDP Is No Longer Democratic” – Onu
Silas Onu, who previously served as PDP State Publicity Secretary and later as State Chairman , said he gave his best to the party.
“I served to ensure the party was well entrenched in our ward.”
He was also the PDP’s senatorial candidate in Ebonyi South in 2024 , but now believes the party is no longer moving in the right direction.
“This decision didn’t come easily. But due to irreconcilable differences, especially the role some governors are playing in the party, I must move on.”
He accused a few state governors of interfering in PDP’s internal affairs , leading to factionalism, undemocratic practices , and weakened national cohesion .
“The PDP no longer reflects the ideals I stood for.”
Onu Calls on PDP Members To Join ADC Movement
In his resignation letter, Barr. Onu thanked the PDP for its support during his years of service and encouraged others to follow him into the ADC.
“I pray that we can all journey into the African Democratic Congress and continue forging a strong political movement for the good of our people.”
He described the ADC as a coalition of leaders committed to national renewal, democratic values , and good governance , and urged more PDP members to consider defecting.
“This is the path forward. The ADC is the platform for change.”
ADC Gains More Momentum Ahead of 2027
