Actress and filmmaker Regina Daniels has pleaded with Nigerians to stop insulting her mother, Rita Daniels, as her marriage to Senator Ned Nwoko continues to face challenges.
In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Regina explained that she did not marry Nwoko out of greed, stressing that her family, including her mother, had initially advised her against the relationship.
“The main reason for this video is to ask everyone to please stop insulting my mom,” she said. “She is the best thing that ever happened to me. She has been strong for seven years. You all insulted her, but she tried. It was me who made the decision. I’m ashamed to say I fell in love, but I really did.”
Regina revealed that her mother and brothers warned her not to proceed with the marriage, but she was determined to follow her feelings. She said she even considered ending her life at one point due to the pressure surrounding her relationship.
“My mom warned me, my brothers warned me, everyone did. I was going to kill myself if I didn’t marry Ned. Everyone was looking for me. I went to the police and said they should arrest me because my family didn’t want me to marry the love of my life,” she said.
The actress described her mother as a strong woman who had supported her family through hardship, adding that she owed it to her to ensure her happiness. “I was a blessing to my mom. God used me to settle her. She is the best woman on earth,” Regina said.
Addressing critics who accused her of marrying Nwoko for money, she said her family was not poor and that no amount of money could make her mother give away her child.
Regina also spoke about her children, Munir and Khalifa, vowing to raise them regardless of her marital situation. “I will fight for my children. I tried to be calm, but I’ll raise them with or without your support, Ned,” she said.
Her comments come amid reports of a serious crisis in her marriage. In October, Regina accused Nwoko of physical assault, claims he denied, alleging that her behavior was influenced by substance abuse.
Despite the turmoil, Regina expressed respect for her estranged husband, saying she still values him as the father of her children. “I still care and respect him. That’s love. I only want my children’s father’s name to remain strong,” she added.
The actress concluded by saying she hopes her family can overcome the current challenges, noting that she is drawing strength from their support and from the need to protect her children.
