Onyemaechi’s possible Trabzonspor switch gathers pace

Article arrow_drop_down

Super Eagles left back Bruno Onyemaechi is attracting strong interest from Turkish giants Trabzonspor, raising the prospect of another Nigerian international moving to the Turkish Super Lig. Turkish transfer insider Ekrem Konur reports that Trabzonspor are ready to open talks with Olympiacos to assess the terms of a deal for the 26 year old defender.

Any formal negotiations are expected to intensify after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Onyemaechi is currently on duty with Nigeria. The left back has struggled for regular minutes at Olympiacos since joining from Portuguese side Boavista for about €2.5 million in January 2025, making a potential move to Trabzonspor an opportunity for more consistent game time.

Trabzonspor already have Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu leading their attack, with the forward enjoying an excellent season and scoring 11 league goals so far, one of the best tallies in the division. Turkey has also become a key base for Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen, who plays for Galatasaray, and several other Nigerian players, underlining the country’s growing appeal as a destination for Nigerian internationals.
