The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Edo State Council has rejected the five-man caretaker committee reportedly set up by the national president of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in collaboration with former Edo NLC chairman, Odion Olaye.
In a statement signed by the Edo NLC chairman, Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide, and Assistant Secretary, Comrade Osahon Omole, the union described the committee as illegal and unacceptable to Edo workers.
“We strongly advise the public to disregard the so-called caretaker committee. Edo workers reject it outrightly,” the statement said.
The Edo NLC leadership accused Odion Olaye of attempting to control the state council by proxy, recalling his past threats that the state would “burn” if a certain politician did not win an election.
They further accused Comrade Ajaero of trying to impose Olaye on Edo workers, warning that such moves would destabilize the state’s labour activities.
“Edo workers have been enjoying peaceful industrial relations since Odion Olaye was removed and replaced with the Bernard Joman Egwakhide-led executive,” the statement read.
The union urged Comrade Ajaero to focus on addressing pressing issues affecting Nigerian workers instead of interfering in Edo affairs. They also called on the Federal Ministry of Labour to protect workers’ rights in the state and prevent intimidation by the national leadership.
“Edo workers are solidly behind the Bernard Joman Egwakhide-led NLC council and will resist any attempt to impose Odion Olaye through a caretaker committee,” the statement concluded.

At a White House meeting, Trump praised Takaichi but urged Japan to do more to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran’s actions have severely disrupted tanker traffic and driven energy prices higher . He said Washington does not “need anything” from allies but argued it is appropriate for partners like Japan and NATO members to contribute more ships to clear mines and escort tankers through the strategic waterway . Trump defended keeping allies in the dark about his Iran plans by invoking Japan’s 1941 surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, telling a Japanese reporter, “We wanted surprise. Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn’t […]
