Nkan returns with new love single California Love

Article arrow_drop_down

Singer Oluwakemisola Otekaiye, known as Nkan, is set to capture hearts again with her new single California Love, following the critical success of her 2025 EP Surulere.

Arriving in the season of love, the track showcases her signature Kosmopolitan sound in a softer, more atmospheric style than earlier upbeat songs like Pepepe. The production highlights her powerful vocals while exploring the emotions of long distance love and the warm memories of a romance that began in California.

The song reflects Nkan’s journey between her Nigerian roots and the years she has spent making music in the United States, creating a sound that feels both personal and global.

Sharing the inspiration behind the track, she said music is a vessel for truth and emotion and that California Love aims to capture the special warmth that keeps love alive across distance. She described it as a very personal and spiritual story shaped by her strong connection with God.

Nkan recalled that shortly before relocating to the US, she fell ill and her pastor jokingly called it travel fever. Around that time, Tupac’s classic California Love kept replaying in her mind, even though she had not yet chosen which state she would move to.

She said she later heard the song again in her spirit while on her flight to the US and woke up smiling, taking it as a playful sign from God. Two months after settling in Oakland, she found love there, and that experience became the story behind her new single.
