Nigeria, Brazil Deepen Ties With Over 30 MoUs
The Federal Government will sign more than 30 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Brazil during the second session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM) , set to begin on Monday, June 23, 2025 .
The three-day event will focus on boosting ties in sectors like:
- Agriculture
- Energy
- Defence
- Creative economy
- Innovation
It also marks the visit of Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin , who arrives in Nigeria to strengthen bilateral cooperation between two of Africa and Latin America’s largest economies.
Strategic Platform for Investment and Collaboration
According to Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadejia , the dialogue supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda , which prioritises global partnerships and economic revitalisation.
“This is a major step in Nigeria’s international diplomacy,” he said.
He added that the talks aim to expand cooperation in trade, investment, culture, and innovation — all critical to national development.
Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum to Attract Over 400 Million Consumers
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole , said the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum will take place on June 25 .
She described it as an opportunity to connect with over 400 million combined consumers from both countries.
A highlight of the forum will be the launch of a Digital Trade Room , designed to boost cross-border digital commerce.
“Brazil’s strength in digital inclusion and Nigeria’s fintech success create powerful opportunities for shared growth.”
Agriculture: A Major Area of Focus
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari , said both nations are finalising agreements in areas such as:
- Animal genetics
- Soya bean production
- Research and development
He added that these partnerships will help fast-track Nigeria’s Green Imperative Programme , a ₦4.5 billion initiative aimed at setting up agricultural delivery offices in all 774 local governments.
“We’re building stronger food systems through this strategic engagement.”
Creative Economy Also in Spotlight
Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hajiya Hannatu Musawa , said the shared cultural heritage between Nigeria and Brazil will drive deeper collaboration in the creative and tourism industries .
“This dialogue opens new paths for Afro-Atlantic cooperation and business growth.”
She confirmed several MoUs in the pipeline to support the creative sector and attract Brazilian investors.
States and Private Sector Involved
Technical Assistant to the President on Agriculture and Executive Secretary of PFSCU, Marion Moon , said planning includes subnational engagement.
“We plan to host Brazilian investors in states like Lagos, Edo, Kebbi, Plateau, Nasarawa, and the FCT.”
This shows how deeply the dialogue is being integrated into regional and private sector development plans.
