The Niger State Government has issued an urgent warning to residents living near the River Niger and River Kaduna to relocate to safer ground. This is due to the controlled release of water from four major hydroelectric dams: Kainji, Shiroro, Zungeru, and Jebba.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) stated that the dams are releasing thousands of gallons of water per minute. This will likely cause the rivers to overflow and flood surrounding communities.
The Director-General of NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba-Arah, confirmed that flooding has already begun in 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs), damaging houses, farmlands, and roads. He also warned that the ongoing rainy season could bring violent windstorms and advised people not to stand under trees during rain.
This warning comes after a major flood in Mokwa LGA in May 2025 that killed over 200 people. The government is continuing to assess the situation and has promised to provide updates.

Police investigate alleged shooting of comedian Broda Shaggi
The police have opened an investigation into the alleged shooting of popular skit maker and comedian Samuel Perry, better known as Broda Shaggi, during a skit shoot in Ogun State. Reports say Broda Shaggi sustained a gunshot injury on Sunday afternoon while filming a comedy skit under the Sango Ota bridge in the Sango Ota area of Ogun. A police source quoted in multiple reports said the exact circumstances of the shooting remain unclear, but confirmed that the injury occurred at the location where he and his crew were working. Anti terror war: Tinubu boosts military equipment for tougher security push

Court warns Sowore, threatens to revoke bail and order his arrest
A Federal High Court in Abuja has threatened to revoke the bail granted to activist and politician Omoyele Sowore and issue a warrant for his arrest in his ongoing cybercrime case.
