NATO allies have pledged to make major new purchases of United States-made weapons and equipment to strengthen Ukraine’s defences as the war with Russia continues.
Defence ministers and senior officials from several member states signalled plans to sign fresh contracts for air defence systems, artillery, drones, and ammunition, saying Ukraine still urgently needs long-term military support.
The new commitments are expected to run into billions of dollars and will focus on replenishing Ukraine’s stocks while also rebuilding allied arsenals that have been depleted by previous transfers to Kyiv.
Officials said the purchases would be arranged through joint procurement schemes and direct national orders, with the aim of speeding up deliveries and ensuring greater coordination across the alliance.
They argued that the extra firepower is essential to help Ukraine hold the front lines, protect cities from missile and drone attacks, and maintain pressure on Russian forces in the months ahead.
Some European leaders also described the move as a way to reinforce NATO’s own deterrence posture on its eastern flank, warning that any Ukrainian collapse would carry serious security risks for the rest of the continent.
