Preparations are complete in New York City as the fashion world gears up for the 2026 Met Gala, one of the most prestigious and exclusive events on the global style calendar.
Around 450 high-profile guests are expected to attend the annual fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s event will be co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams.
The 2026 theme, “Costume Art,” aligns with the museum’s new exhibition, which will showcase more than 400 pieces spanning 5,000 years of fashion history. Guests are expected to interpret the dress code, “Fashion Is Art,” by blending clothing with artistic expression, drawing inspiration from movements such as the Renaissance, Baroque, and Impressionism.
As with previous editions, the theme allows for broad creative interpretation, meaning the red carpet is likely to feature a wide range of bold and unconventional designs.
The event is overseen by Anna Wintour, who continues her long-standing role as chair. Alongside the main co-chairs, the host committee includes stars such as Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Teyana Taylor, Lisa, Elizabeth Debicki, and Lena Dunham.
Traditionally held on the first Monday of May, the gala will begin with arrivals on the red carpet from around 18:00 EST. While the event itself remains private, the red carpet is widely covered, offering global audiences a glimpse of celebrity fashion.
Coverage of the arrivals will be streamed live by Vogue across its digital platforms, with presenters including Ashley Graham, Cara Delevingne, and La La Anthony, while Emma Chamberlain returns as red carpet correspondent.
The Met Gala remains one of the most exclusive events in the world, with individual tickets reportedly costing around $75,000, while tables can exceed $350,000. Most celebrities attend as guests of major fashion houses, which use the event as a platform for global visibility.
Every guest must receive approval from Anna Wintour, reinforcing the event’s tightly controlled and highly curated nature.
Beyond fashion, the gala serves as a major fundraising event for the Costume Institute, supporting its exhibitions and operations through to 2027.
