Liverpool fear that striker Alexander Isak has suffered a broken leg in the Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur, according to multiple reports. The Swedish forward was injured while scoring the opening goal in Saturday’s 2–1 victory in London after a strong challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven.
Isak, who came on as a second half substitute, finished calmly from close range but was left in clear pain and could not join his teammates in celebrating. He received treatment on the pitch before being helped off and later underwent scans to determine the extent of the damage.
Liverpool are awaiting final MRI results but The Athletic and Sky Sports report that the club fear a leg fracture, which could rule him out for several months. Manager Arne Slot said after the match that the situation looked worrying, noting that when a player scores and then cannot continue, it is usually a bad sign.
The 26 year old only joined Liverpool from Newcastle United on deadline day in a British record deal worth around £125 million. His start at Anfield has been disrupted, with just 16 appearances and three goals so far after fitness issues and an earlier groin injury.
The injury is expected to sideline Isak for a large part of the second half of the season if a break is confirmed. That would leave Liverpool short of options in attack and pose a fresh challenge for the reigning Premier League champions as they navigate a busy schedule.
