Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai has apologised to the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for her earlier outburst over being left out of this year’s nominations. She had previously gone viral for angrily telling them to eat their award after her name was missing from the list.
In a new post on her X page, Afegbai admitted that her apology was overdue and that her earlier reaction was disrespectful. She said her words were driven by hurt and disappointment and did not reflect the respect she has for the AMVCA platform and those who work behind the scenes.
The actress, who played the character Idia in Kemi Adetiba’s Netflix series To Kill a Monkey, had initially expressed shock at not being nominated for Best Supporting Actress. She argued that her role was one of the most talked about performances from the series and insisted that she did not need an award for validation, saying the organisers could eat their award.
Afegbai now says that while she still believes in the strength of her work, she should have handled her disappointment privately and more maturely. She acknowledged that award decisions are made by a jury and that not everyone who does good work will be recognised every year.
She thanked fans and colleagues who reached out to her and encouraged her to apologise and move on. Afegbai added that she remains committed to her craft and hopes to keep improving, whether or not awards come her way.
Her apology has drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising her for showing humility and others saying the incident highlights broader concerns about transparency and recognition in award selections. For now, the actress appears focused on closing the chapter and maintaining a better relationship with the AMVCA organisers going forward.

Enugu Air aircraft suffers runway excursion at Benin Airport

NANS seeks probe of alleged crisis at Osun Poly

UK officers investigated over dying teen’s arrest
