The Lagos State Government has sealed Dowen College in Lekki Phase 1 over allegations of improper waste disposal and violation of environmental regulations.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the closure on Wednesday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) carried out the enforcement.
According to Wahab, the action followed an earlier operation on Tuesday when LAGESC officials apprehended a man suspected of flouting waste disposal rules. Upon questioning, the man disclosed that he worked for Dowen College, prompting investigators to trace the offence back to the school.
“This waste was traced to Dowen College in Lekki Phase 1. Such disregard for environmental laws is unacceptable,” Wahab said.
He added that the Corps Marshal of LAGESC was directed to seal the school’s premises immediately, warning that the government would not hesitate to take strict measures against any institution or organisation that violates waste management laws.
“Lagos must remain clean, safe, and healthy for all residents. Enforcement will continue without compromise,” he stressed.
The commissioner reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental offences and urged both individuals and institutions to comply with the state’s sanitation guidelines.

DHQ, ICRC begin training to identify soldiers killed in combat
