Lagos APC Launches Reconciliation Committee to Heal Internal Divisions
In a bid to restore unity and address rising tensions, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially inaugurated a reconciliation committee .
This decision follows growing unrest within the party after the controversial renomination of Lasisi Akinsanya as chairman of the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) .
According to APC spokesman Seye Oladejo , the committee will work for the next two weeks to resolve all outstanding disputes and ensure a united front before the local government elections .
“The party is committed to resolving all internal issues swiftly and decisively,” he said in a statement.
To ensure broad representation, the Lagos APC reconciliation committee has been decentralized into four senatorial districts, with each unit led by a senior party member.
Party Leadership Pledges Commitment to Peace and Unity
Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi charged the committee members to act diligently and use their experience to resolve disputes fairly.
He assured aggrieved members that the party was listening and would take their concerns seriously.
“We are committed to pacifying our members and ensuring a united APC going into the polls,” Ojelabi said.
The move comes amid rising pressure from grassroots members who feel sidelined or ignored in the candidate selection process.
Protest Over Akinsanya’s Renomination Shakes APC Headquarters
Despite efforts to promote unity, protesters from Igando-Ikotun LCDA stormed the Lagos APC secretariat in Ikeja, demanding the removal of Lasisi Akinsanya from the race.
Armed with placards and banners, they accused Akinsanya of poor leadership and lack of development under his tenure.
They also criticized former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola and APC chieftain Enilolobo for allegedly backing Akinsanya’s renomination.
“Under his leadership, our council consistently ranks among the worst in monthly development reports,” said protest leader Olokodana Bukhari .
Bukhari warned that pushing Akinsanya forward could lead to serious political consequences for the APC in the area.
He accused Akinsanya of aligning with individuals who have not always acted in the best interest of the party and questioned his commitment to APC values.
