Singer Korede Bello has shared a heartfelt message about his Christian faith and his spiritual journey from Islam to Christianity.
In a video posted on Instagram, he questioned the constant focus on Jesus’ crucifixion, saying Christ’s sacrifice is complete and does not need to be repeated. He stressed that Jesus never asked believers to remember him on the cross, but that this does not mean the cross is unimportant.
Bello said the reflection came while he was praying and looking at a cross, and it struck him that Jesus is no longer on it but seated at the right hand of the Father. He explained that when he thinks about Jesus, he thinks about his identity as being seated with Christ beside God.
He emphasised that the resurrection is central to Christianity, citing Apostle Paul’s teaching that if Christ has not risen, then Christian faith is meaningless.
Sharing his background, Korede Bello revealed that he was born and raised a Muslim but became a Christian after personally studying the Bible, not for religious formality but for personal conviction.
He expressed concern that many Christians remain fixated on the image of Christ on the cross instead of focusing on the risen and ascended Christ. According to him, the cross carried people’s sins and represents an old identity that has passed away. Staying mentally at the cross, he said, is like nailing Christ there over and over again.
Bello urged believers to understand their identity in the Christ who has ascended and now intercedes for them. He reminded Christians that when they pray, they pray through someone who is not on earth or on the tree but in heaven.
He also highlighted love as the true proof of Christian identity, quoting Jesus’ teaching that people will know his followers by the love they show one another.
Speaking on communion, he said that eating the bread and drinking the wine in remembrance of Jesus is the true act of remembering Christ, not just focusing on the image of the cross.
Korede Bello ended his message by encouraging Christians to live renewed, Christlike lives, urging them to be well, be safe, be renewed and “think mega.”
