President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, alongside new ambassadorial roles for Femi Fani Kayode, Reno Omokri and other envoys.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu cleared the posting of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners, made up of 31 career diplomats and 34 non career appointees. The postings follow the Senate’s confirmation of all nominees in December 2025.
Jimoh Ibrahim, a businessman and former senator who represented Ondo South, will now serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative at the UN. Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani Kayode has been posted as ambassador to Germany, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri has been assigned to head Nigeria’s mission in Mexico.
Other prominent appointees include former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who has been posted to Spain, and former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who has been assigned to Qatar. The list also contains several career diplomats posted as ambassadors and high commissioners to key countries and multilateral missions.
The statement explained that agrément requests have already been sent to the receiving countries, and some, including the United Kingdom and France, have granted formal approval for their designated Nigerian envoys. Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin an induction programme for all ambassadors designate to prepare them for their assignments.
The new postings are part of the administration’s effort to strengthen Nigeria’s representation and advance the country’s interests in strategic capitals and international organisations around the world.

Police investigate alleged shooting of comedian Broda Shaggi
