Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has marked the 10th anniversary of the passing of his wife, Henrietta Kosoko, paying tribute to his late spouse with a heartfelt social media post. The actor took to his Instagram page to share a photo of the late Henrietta, describing her as one of the most important people in his life.
Henrietta Kosoko, 53, died on Monday, June 6, 2016, after slumping at their home and being rushed to the hospital where she was confirmed dead. She was also an actress and had celebrated her 53rd birthday just one week before her death.
Henrietta reportedly died after losing a battle with diabetes, having been battling the condition for some time which led to a fluctuation in her sugar level. She was buried on June 10, 2016.
During his tribute at the time of her death, Kosoko wrote: “I find it disheartening that my treasured wife passed away at R-Jolad hospital. It was a terrible shock because the sickness was so brief and never looked like a terminal one.” He expressed his sorrow but noted that the burden had been lessened by the many kindnesses shown to his family.
Kosoko, now 71, later broke his silence about his wife’s loss in an emotional revelation, opening up about the heartbreaking loss of Henrietta, the heavy responsibilities of being a father, and his hidden battles with declining health. His confession shocked not only his family but the entire entertainment world.
Henrietta trained as a caterer before delving into acting, and was a veteran in the Nigerian movie industry. Her passing forced Kosoko to shelve plans to celebrate his 52 years of acting career.
This is Kosoko’s third wife loss within 24 years. In October 1992 and November 1993, he lost two wives in about 13 months, and in 2016, another wife, his most popular better half Henrietta, died.
